Having agreed to wait and watch this film together, my friend and I finally saw it on the big screen recently. Although I can never seem to recall the right name (I lean towards Millennium rather than Bicentennial for some reason), I will never forget how much I loved this movie. With a touching and timely story line, I was brought right into the story right up until the end.
Robin Williams, as always, is an amazing actor. Capable of pulling off silly slapstick or a serious sap, in this film he brings both of those aspects together in a wonderful manner. Portraying Andrew Martin, a robot learning of life and it's effects on himself, had to have been difficult and trying. There were many other great actors involved as well. Unfortunately it was difficult to follow exactly who was playing whom. Using many actors in dual roles (or extremely similar looking actors) to play a progressing family, I was left confused many a times. It was very helpful to be watching with someone that I could quietly consult with now and then to be sure I was thinking it was the right character.
All in all this film will bring thoughts of how immortality might have an affect on someone, and possibly even how we might react to robots, in people-like roles of our lives. I was left with deep, good thoughts after seeing this, and I couldn't help but be touched by how well the whole story was put together.
This is a great all ages film, except for it's length. I, personally, did not notice how long it was until we left the theater, but you do have to remember that a span of 200 years is covered in the movie. Unless someone has a super short attention span, there ought not be a conflict.
