I can always tell when Nichol really likes or really dislikes a movie: she flails around, throwing up her hands, clutching her head, pounding her fists on the chair. Judging from that and the astonished smile on her face throughout the movie, I'd say she really liked Being John Malkovich.
And why not, it's one of the best films of the year. May Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman go forth and make many more movies that delight, amaze, and make me think.
Well, without giving too much about the movie away, the performances are really good (I especially liked John Cusack's puppeteer and Catherine Keener, who is rapidly moving up my list of women I'd give up Pepsi for), the plot is among the weirdest I've ever experienced in any medium, and it's just really funny without being slapstick. As a bonus, the cultural commentary in the movie is top-notch...way better than in the preachy Fight Club.
