This movie starts off burning rubber, then does doughnuts, right before the wheels fall off. It does however crash and burn beautifully at the end. It was street legal, not slick......sorry I had a Hot Rod Magazine flashback.
Speaking of flashbacks and flash sideways and forwards this movie has plenty of them. Uniquely, many are not seen, but described by the actors in a manner that makes you think you did see it. Either that or I gotta get a case of that scotch I was drinking.
A basic mystery with some verve, it's very ambition (mirroring the film) is its downfall. They try one or two little subplots too many and it's a race to see which loose end will get tied up last.
A "B" movie that aspired to more, all tallied up, it reached its goal. The director should get kudos for the amount of quality he got to the screen on what appears to be a tight budget. It could easily have fallen into campiness or slasher mindlessness, but, like Rocky, though bloodied it remained on its feet.
The video distributor of this film has a penchant for offbeat, quirky films. One suspects they too are on a budget, but time and again they pick worthy if little publicized films. Kudos to them as well.
