Once upon a dream.... there was a beautiful princess.... Are there many girls who didn't wish they were a beautiful princess, destined to be loved by a handsome prince? Not sure, but I know I was one of those dream filled girls. Before the days of VCRs {gasp}, seeing Disney's Sleeping Beauty was limited to a visit to the movie theater. Now, with DVD players and VCRs, we have the luxury of viewing this classic at our hearts desire.
The movie centers around a beautiful princess named Aurora, and the evil Maleficent. The evil Maleficent is bent on destroying Aurora after being left of the invitation list for Aurora's debut to the kingdom as a baby. Whisked away to the forest, to be raised by three good hearted fairies, Aurora grows into a lovely young woman, this is Disney, remember? Maleficent cast a spell, cursing the lovely Aurora to death by the poisonous prick of a spinning wheel needle by her 16th birthday. Just before being returned to the kingdom, Aurora meets the handsome prince in the forest.Neither know that they are to be married, an arrangement made by their fathers. Since this is a Disney movie, the two quickly fall in love and panic when they cannot find each other. The fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather haul Aurora back to the kingdom, where she meets her destiny and runs into that fated spinning wheel. Of course, Merriweather has changed Maleficent's spell to one of slumber, not death. The princess is awoken by a kiss from her beloved prince, as she should be!
So, I essentially told you the whole story line, but in no way did it match the enthralling tale told by Disney's artists. Go buy a copy of Sleeping Beauty and see for yourself!
