icemancm's Full Review: The Razor's Edge [Hyper CD] [Remaster] - AC/DC Mov...
AC/DC... one thinks Hell's Bells or Back in Black, but I have to admit that even in the 90's AC/DC still rocked on whole-heartedly with The Razor's Edge! Immense energy and fiery vocals are found on every track on this CD! I pop this CD in whenever I feel like just jammin' and practicin' my sneer in front of the mirror as I sing- rather, scream- into the hairbrush, my makeshift microphone! Unfortunately, at some very inopportune times, family have caught me doin' this, but I digress...
On to the band members at the time of recordin' this CD!
BAND MEMBERS: Malcolm Young and Angus Young- brothers that have been the heart of AC/DC since its conception, they're the 6 string artists.
Brian Johnson- the frontman, his vocals add a lot of depth and energy to all the frenzied rock 'n' roll the band plays.
Cliff Williams- the guy on the bass guitar, his bass lines sure throb through my ears...
Chris Slade- the man on the sticks; Chris pounds out a heavy rhythm on the skins.
Of course, AC/DC has gone through a lot of member changes throughout the course of AC/DC's career, if you will, but the music remains the same- hard hittin', ear-poundin', sexually-thrillin', pulse-poundin', dance-floor fillin' at its best!
But onto the music...!
1. Thunderstruck- Burstin' out of the gate with Thunderstruck, AC/DC just jams on and easily hooks you in along with its catchy guitar riffs, and the vocals of Brian will make you sing along in sync with the music; while you strum that air guitar...! This song is one of my favorites of AC/DC's, although I have quite a few songs I love by them...
We met some girls
Some dancers who gave a good time
Broke all the rules, played all the fools
Yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds
I was shakin' at the knees
Could I come again please?
Yeah the ladies were too kind
You've been - thunderstruck... thunderstruck!
2. Fire Your Guns- Another great jam, frantic drummin' joined by some excellent guitar work- but I like some of the other songs on this CD a bit better... not to say that this song is not good, no sir! It's a bit on the... shall we say, racy side... but very enjoyable, nonetheless... but I'll take the lady with the deep brown eyes...!
That lady bites, hard style
Drips of sex, eyes are wild
She got moves, long long legs
She got eyes of blue, body curves
Legs that'll shake the earth..
3. Moneytalks- I love this song... ! The guitar riff that continues from beginnin' to end just pulsates its way into your brain, never to let go even after the CD's done, you'd swear you could hear it playin' again in your head...! The drums are top-notch on this cut, and I enjoy the enthusiasm and energy Brian puts out in his vocals.
The claim is on you
The sights are on me
So what do you do
That's guaranteed
Hey little girl, you broke the laws
You hustle, you deal, you steal from us all...
4. The Razor's Edge- The title cut, it is a horse of a separate kennel, as far as AC/DC goes, I think, compared to most of their other songs. More hauntin' and mysterious, the wailin' guitars throughout give an eerie buzz... the drums are softer yet they carry the same energy as in the other songs, and Brian's voice sounds a bit quieter, a bit more mellow, but you can definitely hear the spookiness in this song... perfect for Halloween parties! I don't know, I think of Edgar Allen Poe whenever I hear this song- you know, "The Pit and The Pendulum"?
You're living on the edge
Don't know wrong from right
They're breathing down your neck
You're running out of lives
And here comes the razors edge...
5. Mistress For Christmas- Heheh... perfect timin', for the Christmas season! I just LOVE the raunchiness of this song; the openin' spoken words by Brian... I definitely can get into singin' this over some spiked egg-nog! (*preferably with a scantily clad woman of course... hehe.*) This song just makes you revel in the christmas givin' spirit... if ya know what I mean. ~~grins~~
Listen, I like female form in minimum dress
Money to spend with a capital "S"
Get a date with the woman in red
Wanna be in heaven with three in a bed
He got it, I want it
They got it, I can't have it
But I want it, but it don't matter
She got it, and I can't have it
I want a mistress for Christmas....
6. Rock Your Heart Out- A plain, flat out AWESOME jammin' just for jammin's sake song... guitars are smooth and frenzied; drums are frantic and speedin'... and Brian conveys his whole energetic self into his vocals. Perfect song for tryin' to impress those air-groupies with your professional air-guitar! Just make sure that REAL people don't see you tryin' to perfect your string work...!
Got everything you want
Got everything you need
Don't worry about the cost
Just sell your soul to me
You gotta bring the house down
Beat the drums loud
Bleed your life dry
Climb on lets fly
Rock your little
Rock your little
Rock your little heart out!
7. Are You Ready?- Another great song just for jammin's sake, this one starts off softer with almost muted strings... but as soon as Brian's vocals cut in with "Are you ready?", the drums and the rest of the guitars comes alive...! I rather think that this song would get a whole stadium rockin' with everyone, yes I mean EVERYONE... singin' along and just enjoyin' the song with the band...! (*As I heard it did in Grand Rapids, Michigan, when they were there recently... the show did VERY well, and I HAD a chance to go... but couldn't. I was SO bummed out, lemme tell ya.*)
She making eyes
At everything she meet
ain't it a crime
When she make you pump heat
She make you fly
Because that's her thing
She make you dry
And you know you're broken in
Who all need it, who all need it
You all breathe it, we all need it
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line...!
8. Got You By The Balls- Another frenetic, high energized song; this one just cuts to the quick- the drums are memorable, easy to follow, and Brian's singin' with his usual high-pitched self- but the guitars are what I notice the most about this song... ! They're just great solid guitar riff makers all the way across the finish line from the start of this song. Of course, the lyrics are also very raunchy, as par the course for AC/DC, makin' for yet another great song for me simply on the basis of it's straight-forward shot-to-the-heart cut-to-the-quick simplicity and raw power!
Hey mister businessman
High society
She can play the school girl
And spank you all you please
But she won't sacrifice
What you want tonight
She won't come across
Unless there's money in her hand
She don't go overtime
She got you by the balls...!
9. Shot Of Love- Wheeeeoooo... I just LOVE the guitar riffs on this cut...! Very simple yet very powerful; attention grabbin', straight on, no holds barred, lust and sex filled poundin' song! I would think that this song would a good one to listen for some hot action late at night... and I'm not talkin' 'bout makin' love either... the other action... the raw, animalistic, lust-filled, sweaty... you get the idea.
Come on honey, take a trip with me
We'll take a double shot of ectasy
I'll drink some water from a wooden cup
And keep a rockin' 'til the sun comes up
And I warn you
It's the best shot of your life
And I warn you
It's the best shot of your life
Shot of love...
10. Let's Make It- I honestly don't mind this song; but it reminds me of slower power ballads- and I think this song straddles the fence between a slow power ballad and a fast rocker... which kind of wrecks it for me. I like one or the other; not in between when it comes to music like this. With that bein' said, the music and the vocals of course, are strong and wild, vibratic, and rather finishes off strong.
Hey sugar baby
So hot and tasty
Come on give me some love
You're driving me wild
It's way past midnight
Why don't we take a ride
We'll make some honey
As we cruise real slow
Lets make it, don't waste it
Lets make it, come on and taste it...!
11. Goodbye And Good Riddance To Bad Luck- I love the guitar riffs on this cut... as you would notice the trend by now, it is the powerful, straightforward riffs that holds me in thrall and makes me want to just let go and jam...! Brian's voice, as usual, overflow with his energy, although I think the lyrics are more suited to a blues guitarist than AC/DC. Don't get me wrong however! They did a good job on this song, but I prefer some of the other songs on this CD.
Getting bombed out on booze
Got nothing to lose
Run out of money
Disposable blues
Sleazy hotels
Like living in hell
The girls on the hustle
With nothing to sell
Want something for nothing
It's always the same
Keep pushing and shoving
And I'm down on the game...
12. If You Dare- the final song on the CD, AC/DC reaches the finish line with a strong push; the guitars and the drums are thrummin' and thumpin', and the vocals are solid- but the lyrics are kind of too simple for me. Almost the same verse three times, then a repetition of "Come on outside, come on outside, come on outside... if you dare" until the end of the song... I do like the song, but I like songs that has a bit more musical oomph to compensate for ultra simple lyrics like these, or a bit more lyrical diversity.
Honey do you love me
Love me like you do
Woman won't you come outside and play
If you dare
If you dare
AC/DC has definitely withstood it's test of time; havin' been around since 1974... and their music has rocked on with a multitude of excellent songs, like Hell's Bells, Shake Your Foundations, and even the dance favorite, You Shook Me All Night Long... I would be hard pressed to try and recommend any kind of music similar to this, but luckily... the vast majority of people out there and in here on epinions have heard of and heard the music of AC/DC.
