Pavement has always kept my attention with their finely tuned talent of blending cheese, melody, just the right amount of craziness and general catchiness, the part lacking for me has always been the lyrics. Whether they are or not singing about anything useful, their style of music often has me listening to the music as a whole. But maybe that's just it, I am so into the actual music and the how the words are said in this case rather than hearing what they have to say. I really can't decide if too much thought or too little thought goes into the lyrics. They just don't grab me the way that some other bands do.
It's a great album from start to finish with not a bad song on it. Wowee Zowee remains one of my best albums in my collection, but I imagine if you must listen to a band solely to hear what they are talking about and say "hey that's happened to me" Pavement likely isn't for you. They are all about making the music. It's not really important what they say because the music keeps you so happy you don't notice what they are talking about. I think this album would be liked by anyone who is a musician and into semi-experimental cheesy, catchy stuff.
This is my first review and as a result is lacking any proper format, so please bear with me. I am also listening to Wowee Zowee and writing at the same time, it's definitely not thinking music, but all that doesn't matter because if nothing else, Pavement illustrates that ignorance really is bliss.
