Paulblow's Full Review: Decade of Decadence: '81-'91 by Motley Crue
People often mistake me for a buttrocker, just because I have a Motley Crue poster hanging on my wall. Truth is, the only '80's L.A. metal/hair bands I've ever liked are RATT and Motley Crue. Now, Motley Crue really stood out from all the other L.A. bands from this period ('81-'91). They played a style of buttrock metal-tinged glam that rocks hard. They also looked cool - lots of teased black hair, tattoos, and leather -that's what I like in a band.
This CD, "Decade of Decadence", is actually the only Crue CD I own, and it's the only one I need. This CD contains the absolute best of the best Crue songs - 15 tunes in all - and when I feel like some rockin' party metal, this is what I put on.
The CD starts off with the Crue's early hits - Live Wire, Piece of Your Action, Shout at the Devil, and Looks That Kill, followed by the greatest metal ballad ever recorded, Home Sweet Home, featuring wife-beater Tommy Lee on piano. Man, how I loved the video for that song, back in the day when it was played on MTV... Next song is Smokin' In the Boys Room, which isn't really a Crue song, but it was a big MTV hit also. Then comes my favorite portion of this CD - four back-to-back-to-back-to-back heavy hitters: Girls Girls Girls, Wild Side, Dr. Feelgood (my alltime favorite Crue song), and Kickstart My Heart. These are the songs that make this CD - total badboy party rock just the way you like it!
The next two songs, Teaser and Rock'n'roll Junkie should not have been included on this collection. The songs are weak - they simply do not rock... However, the remaining 3 tracks make up for that, especially the rocking Primal Scream and a slightly Americanized version of the Sex Pistols' Anarchy in the U.K. which closes the CD. Hmmmmmmm, not bad at all.
There you have it... enough Crue hits to rock out your next kegger party, and then some! I've heard their latest CD, "Generation Swine", but while it is a fine album, it doesn't have any anthemic hits that the Crue is famous for. If you can only own one Motley Crue CD, make it this one... 'Nuf said.
