sweetcece's Full Review: Ghostbusters by Original Soundtrack
Many of you may know by reading the music reviews that I have written that I absolutely love to collect musical soundtracks.
The reason for this is really two-fold. One of them is that I love to remember parts of the movie. The other is that the music usually is impeccable. This is also the case with the Ghostbusters – Original Soundtrack, a fabulous collection of rock, jazz, and classical music.
From the very first time that I heard Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. on the radio, which was before I even saw the movie, I knew that I just had to have a copy of this song for my own. Little did I realize though that the entire soundtrack was filled with such beautiful music proving that there’s no “bad” selection in the entire CD.
From the classical interpretations of Elmer Bernstein in Dana’s Theme to the incredible performance of Laura Branigan in Hot Night I can affirmatively say that there’s something literally for everyone no matter what age in this marvelous soundtrack.
With an entire generation of children growing up and discovering the Ghostbuster movie series, I believe that this soundtrack will again be in high demand in the foreseeable future. Already my ten-year-old is enabled with this movie and others from that time period and like many other movies such as Star Wars I believe a revival of sorts may be at hand.
Regardless of that though, the Ghostbusters – Original Soundtrack is an absolutely unique and marvelous collection of music that is desirable even apart from the movie itself. I love listening to this CD at work as well as dancing to it at home, and I highly recommend it to you for purchase.
Selections on Ghostbusters – Original Soundtrack and my thoughts on each selection follow..
1. Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr. – I absolutely love this song! It’s great for dancing, exercise, and singing! It’s a song that stays in your mind through the day and you will find yourself rocking away at your desk. Even just a while ago, I was listening to this soundtrack and rocking away then realized I was singing!
2. Cleanin' Up The Town - The Bus Boys – Jazz and light rock song featuring the keyboard/piano that is extremely fast but great for walking and other exercise, including very exhausting dancing!
3. Savin' The Day - Alessi - Great overall rock song that will keep you moving!
4. In The Name Of Love - Thompson Twins - light rock song with the Ghostbuster theme song underlayed within certain parts.
5. I Can Wait Forever - Air Supply - beautiful love song of devotion that is perfectly suited for a wedding ceremony.
6. Hot Night - Laura Branigan – Great rock song with incredible dance beat
7. Magic - Mick Smiley – mysterious rock song that causes you to float away near the end.
8. Main Title Theme (Ghostbusters) - Elmer Bernstein – Rocking ballad with a flair of mystery. When I listen to this title theme it has all of the imagination of seeing yourself with a bunch of little Einsteins acting like Dennis the Menace!
9. Dana's Theme - Elmer Bernstein – lovely classical instrumental performance with incredible strings and woodwind performance. This piece is able to stand alone from the Ghostbusters itself as an incredible smooth and beautiful love song on its own.
10. Ghostbusters (Instrumental) - Ray Parker Jr. – instrumental only version of the original Ghostbusters theme song by Ray Parker Jr. Perfect for dance or karokee singing. This and the original version sung by Ray Parker Jr. is a great dance piece, perfect for exercising.
