Paulblow's Full Review: Electronic Musician Magazine
Electronic Musician is a must read magazine for both the professional and amateur musician/recording engineer. Each issue comes chock full of information on the latest in digital audio gear, software, and recording/mastering techniques. I have been receiving this magazine for over a year, and it has helped me a great deal. I am both a musician and audio engineer, and this magazine keeps me updated in this fast changing world of digital audio. I spent 2 years in college learning audio engineering/digital audio, but I've probably learned more from reading Electronic Musician than I did in school!
I have yet to receive an issue that didn't contain at least one article that educated me. Everything in digital audio is covered here-- what computer systems are best for digital audio, soundcard options for pro audio systems, mastering techniques, mixing consoles, outboard gear, audio software, speakers, mp3's, DAWs... if it has anything to do with audio, it is covered here! Not only that, but EM often contains articles about promotion techniques for musicians/artists.
The best thing about Electronic Musician is that the writers are all musicians and audio professionals! They write about what they know, and they write in layman's terms so even the most dunderheaded musician/engineer can understand. I do a lot of audio work on my home computer (mostly mastering and mp3 work for the internet), and Electronic Musician was my main source of information in setting up my home studio.
I also have a subscription to Mix magazine, but Electronic Musician has 10 times more relevant information. If you are a musician and/or audio tech, this magazine is for you!
