Pros: Descent price for descent location
Cons: Rooms somewhat "aged"
The Bottom Line: Overall, a good place to stay if you don't have to be on the beach! Not fancy place, but a descent place away from congestion of downtown Honolulu.

| daszynski's Full Review: Aston Waikiki Sunset |
Had a three (3) day stay at the Waikiki Sunset in May, 2003. Location is 2 block off beach, which was fine for us. There is an ABC store as you head toward beach on same side of street. The ABC stores are everywhere in Honolulu and are basically 7-eleven's in Hawaii. For quick foodstuffs, cheap souvenirs, etc. this is the place.
The lobby is nice, with a concierge who can book just about any tour you might want. We didn't want to drive in Honolulu, so we used their services. Very good. (For example, took Pearl Harbor tour for $9/each round trip. Pearl Harbor is good 10 miles away and takes 20-30 minutes to get there. We felt it was fair price.)
Room was on 11th floor looking toward beach. We could also see Diamond head from same balcony. We had a one (1) bedroom condo unit with king size bed. Also had pull-out sofa for kids. Small, but adequate. Rooms are somewhat "aged", meaning this place is not brand new. However, it was clean and comfortable. Maid service was good, too. Because it is a condo, it has no restaurants.
We had no complaints. In fact, after we got back home, my son realized he had left his dental retainer in the room. I called over a week after we had left, talked to housekeeping, and they had found it! They had not thrown it out! So they mailed it back to us in Florida.
Overall, it was a nice place. p.s. For a good breakfast, try the Ocean Resort (I believe that is the name). It is the first hotel on your left as you cross the first street walking toward the beach. Very reasonable!!
