| Mrsfitts's Full Review: Cuisinart CPT-35 Heat Surround 2-Slice Toaster |
Toast became an evil word with the advent of the Atkins craze. We have not gone the way of our Atkins disciples friends. In our house, we still enjoy our toast!
Cuisinart CPT-35 Heat Surround 2-Slice Toaster
Tough times fell upon Silicon Valley and store after store went out of business. When our nearby mall shut down, all the stores had liquidation sales. Although I was not actively shopping for a toaster, this sleek, black beauty was hard to pass up at 50% off!
Features:
· 850 Watts of power
· 1 ¾ wide by 11 long toasting slot
· Cancel Button
· Slide-out Crumb tray
· Selector Dial 1-5
· Cord Storage
I do not use an electric knife when I slice fresh baked bread, so my slices can vary from ¼ to 1.5 wide. Sometimes on the same slice of bread! No matter how thick or thin the bread is, you simply drop the slice into the toaster and as you slide down the button to start toasting, the metal sides inside the toaster adjust to the thickness of your bread. (or the thickest part of your bread in my case) The toasting slot is supposed to be 2" thick, but I don't try to toast anything that thick at the risk of getting the bread stuck.
The one long toasting section is long enough to fit one of those very long pieces of sourdough bread that are sliced from a round loaf, or you can fit 3 cinnamon raisin bread slices in, side by side.
The footprint on my countertops is larger than average; 5 by 15. But its a beautiful, black, shiny footprint.
The Cancel button does the same thing that lifting back up on the starter button. Both make a very loud metallic pop. Fortunately, the bread stays in the toasting slot instead of springing out at you, as the sound would suggest.
The crumb tray release is on the side. You gently tug and you get over a foot of metal sliding out, covered with crumbs. It is recommended you clean this tray regularly. I remember about once every 6 months or so.
The Selector dial is what you use to determine the brownness of your toasted item. My spouse likes his just before 3 for a lighter toast, while I prefer the dial turned just past 3 for a more brown. Selections 1 and 2 are just too light for us, while 4 and 5 will give you burnt offerings for your Atkins deities to atone for eating carbs!
The cord storage is lame. All right, maybe less than lame. This is not the kind that you push back into the unit. This is the kind of cord storage that you have to tilt your toaster on its side and wrap the cord around 4 legs under the unit. Remember that crumb tray that you havent cleaned in awhile? This feature might get you to remember to clean it more often. That, or clean your counters more.
Cuisinart Toaster, I like you, I really like you!
· For style looks, I give this toaster 5 stars.
· For function, I give this toaster 4 stars.
I have been pleased with the constant functionality of the Cuisinart CPT-35 Heat Surround 2-Slice Toaster. It may not be Atkins-friendly, but for us carbnivores, its the best!
