mkp51's Full Review: PGA Championship Golf 2000 for Windows
"Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2000" is a worthy successor to last year’s "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 1999," although I found it doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor in a key area. The game itself hasn’t changed a lot. The menu interface has a completely different design. It’s still easy to set up and get started, and loads of fun to play. Graphics are still superb, and ball physics appear slightly improved. Three new courses (TPC at Piper Glen, TPC at Heron Bay, and TPC at Prestancia) are now offered. The big change is the addition of a course building utility which you can use to design and build your own dream course. I’ve only tried the course builder a couple of times, and at first glance, it appears fairly easy to use.
The problem with "Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2000" is that, as happens frequently with newer versions of software, system requirements have gone up significantly from last year’s version. (Minimum requirements: a 166MHz Pentium class computer and 32 MB RAM; recommended: a 450 MHz Pentium III computer and 128 MB RAM.) I was quite surprised at how slowly on my 466 MHz/64 MB RAM Celeron machine.
"Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2000" is a fine golf simulation...for those with computers that have the "horsepower" to run it. However, the few substantial improvements in the game from last year’s version, and slower than expected performance due to increased system requirements, means that for now, I’ll stick to my tried and true "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 Collection." for my computer golf.
