I love this service because it's so easy to use. I pay for the service for my pets and I am ready to go!
The best aspects of the company are that I can walk into the vet clinic and show my card. I automatically get 25 percent off my bill with the exception of food or flea products. It's that simple! No forms, no hassles, no pre-existing conditions to worry about like some of the other companies! They accept any type of pet as long as the clinic seeing them accepts Pet Assure, so it's not just for dogs and cats. It can also be used at many groomers, pet shops and other pet friendly places for selected discounts. It's worth every nickel spent on the policy.
The worst aspects are that not every clinic is accepting it yet. So, while your regular vet might take it, the emergency clinic might not. Also, if you change vets, you would need to change to a clinic that carried it. Be sure to check this out before paying if you are worried about this. While some of the other more well known companies are accepted by just about any clinic, Pet Assure still isn't accepted widespread.
Who would I recommend it to? Anyone with pets provided their clinic of choice uses it. It covers any animal, even the exotics like reptiles, equine, rabbits, pot bellied pigs, birds, whatever, as long as your clinic accepts it. Be aware though that using the 25 percent discount usually means that it's the ONLY discount you get. So, no senior discounts or "dental month" discount, etc. This is up to the individual clinic to decide the policy for themselves. You will usually get whichever discount is greater, but can't combine them. (so if they offer a 10 percent multi-pet discount, you don't get 35 percent off, just 25 percent)
I have used their website and it was easy to navigate, answered the questions that I would have as a consumer, etc. Their website is http://www.petassure.com/ and you can order the insurance online if you wish.
Working in a pet clinic means I can sure vouch for the ease Pet Assure works! No forms, no paying the money up front and waiting for a check to arrive, no mailing in your pet's records for more details to be given before a claim is paid, just walk in, show your card, get 25 percent taken off your bill after deducting the cost of the non covered items. (you don't get 25 percent off tax either) I have heard good reports from every person I have recommended purchase the policy. That's a good track record compared to some other companies where I can't honestly recommend the owners buy them.
The pricing is simple and inexpensive. $99 for a single pet, $129 for all the pets in your household. This pays for itself if you use the family plan or even if you have just one pet who goes to the vet several times a year. (it probably would not be cost effective for just routine shots/office visit, but if you figure that after the age of 2 many dogs/cats need a yearly dentistry which can cost $100-300+ if there is extensive work needed, you are saving money) You would need to visit 4 times each year to the tune of $100 each visit to make back the cost of the policy if you had just one pet who was young and healthy.
The problem with many pets isn't the "well visits" that cost under $100 a year...it's the dogs with allergies, the dogs that eat rat poison, the cats who have thyroid problems or kidney problems, dogs with chronic ear infections or who are on life long medication or hit by cars or suffering from hip displaysia, the rabbits with intestinal stasis, the ferrets with adrenal gland tumors, the horses with colic or laminitis, all of these problems add up to equal expensive treatment.
If you add in the savings from grooming studios, pet shops, etc, and you use these services regularly, the savings will add up. Only you can determine if this policy is going save you money for your pet by visiting the website and adding up what you pay in pet care each year versus what you would save. If you save, great, go for it, if you aren't going to save, don't buy it. Why spend money if you aren't getting your money's worth?
