For a while, I had a good little system going. Since I had to stay home with my autistic child, I had to find a way to make a few bucks for gas money to her appointments. Of course everyone knows about Ebay http://www.epinions.com/content_431558004356! I had been purchasing my daughter's cute cute little outfits from there for years but never actually sold anything on Ebay. So I used my couponing to make some money on products I got free or cheap. Many stores double and triple coupons so I would stockpile products that I was able to purchase free after coupons. I opened a store on Ebay and sold deodorants, razors, lotions, cough drops, over the counter medicine, character bandaids, and even tampons! Paypal was a great instant option to receive payment from my many Ebay sales.
Those were the good old days. When I printed out my postage at home through this service http://www.epinions.com/content_412514094724, and dropped Ebay packages in the mail each week. Paypal.com could be used on Ebay without having a premier account and racking up fees. With a personal account, I could not accept credit or debit card payments but I was able to receive payments through Paypal without any fees at all! It was free to sign up, I got $5 for referring friends to Paypal, and all payments were free to accept. Now you can't use a Paypal personal account to sell on Ebay. So you have to pay Ebay seller's fees and Paypal transaction fees on top of that. It can add up to more than the item you sold! I have only had one problem with using Paypal for an Ebay auction. I sold a gift basket with high end spa products in it and the buyer asked me to send as a gift to his mother. I did that and immediately after mailing, he filed with Paypal saying his credit card was used against his wishes. So I lost every penny of the amount he paid for the gift basket and the gift basket was already shipped to him. Even though I had delivery confirmation, it was sent not to his home address listed on his credit card but to a gift address. I was out $65. Customer service at Paypal said there was nothing they could do.
It is quick and easy to sign up for Paypal. By putting your email address, name, and address in, your account is set up. You can receive funds but you will not be able to withdraw unless you add a bank account or credit card. Once you do that, you can request a check for a fee of $1.50 or have the payment sent directly to your bank account. (Do you not use your debit card as they now require you to prove it is yours with a $5 charge and after paying it, they never confirmed it.) My bank account has always been safe with using Paypal over the years and they have never taken money out of my account unless I asked them to do it and pay for an Ebay item. I love that I can pay instantly for any item I buy on Ebay so my item ships quickly. All you have to do to pay someone is put their email address in after clicking on SEND MONEY on paypal. That is it, done! You can also send a message to the seller with directions such as have delivery person come to back door with your payment. Another option is REQUEST MONEY so you can send a bill to someone. They will get an email with a link to paypal so they can initiate your payment. To confirm your bank account is yours, they will send two small payments and you need to look at your bank account or call then go to Paypal and put in the amount of these payments to confirm.
Paypal has a credit card that you can quickly apply for online at their website. Also a debit card so you can access your funds immediately, this is only for premier account holders. You will earn 1% cash back for each purchase when you sign for it. You can get a merchant account at Paypal for your website. They also have it so you can print out and pay for shipping labels. Once I saw that they had various stores and websites at paypal.com that accepted paypal but none that I ever use.
Customer service can be hard to reach. Emailed questions take days to get a response and phone calls are hit or miss. Sometimes you get an answer and sometimes you are on the line forever waiting. I have never received an answer to my problem. When they give a response, it still takes weeks to accomplish what they said. Their website is easy to navigate and quick to load, safe to use. I would rather not use paypal for the high fees and required premier account for Ebay!
