When I turned 18 I searched online to find the best deal on my first credit card. For some reason I settled on The Amalgamated Bank of Chicago's MasterCard. It had very low rates with no annual fee. I applied and was approved for a $300 limit @ 11% APR (this was back in 1998 when interest rates were very high). I was pretty excited, but dumped the card when I got other ones later with higher limits. They told me I could reopen the account later at any time. I remember (not sure if this is still offered) getting something in the mail from them to add something called "AmalgaMiles" to my account for $75 per annum. Supposedly the miles were good on any airline and you got one for every dollar charged. Not too bad.
