grygomaca's Full Review: Konica Minolta Vectis Weathermatic Dual 35mm Film ...
Buy this camera to function as your primary one, not just because it is weatherproof! It will knock your socks off. I promise, you won't be disappointed!
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Being that it is watertight, this camera has gaskets and o-rings at each opening forming a perfect seal. It is a 35mm camera with a 50mm lens selector. It has an automatic flash, auto-rewind and an infrared auto-focus when above water. The camera has an underwater close-up button to ensure proper exposure under water (otherwise flash may not reach object). Mine came with a "sportsfinder" which is a plastic contraption that makes picture-taking underwater easy. Otherwise, it is almost impossible to look through the viewfinder with a mask on!
This is not a delicate camera. It is extremely rugged, and trust me, mine has really taken a beating! And it still looks new and performs perfectly. I would even venture to say that the quality of pictures I have taken with this camera are better than most others.
The Minolta Weathermatic uses a 6v lithium battery pack, which will last you well through 54 rolls of 24 exposure film. This camera weighs approximately 14.5 ounces and is a sporty yellow color with grey rubber accents.
EASE OF USE:
Film loading is very simple with this camera. The whole camera is really fool-proof in every way. There are only 3 buttons (the underwater close-up button, the zoom button/50mm lens selector and the button that snaps the picture) and an on/off switch. That's all there is to it!
GREAT EXPECTATIONS:
I expected this to be great only because it could take pictures under water. Boy, was I wrong! I began using this camera as my primary one because it performed so incredibly. I use it at birthdays, holidays and really just all the time. The quality of pictures is truly surprising!
MY EXPERIENCE:
I bought my Minolta Weathermatic 35DL nearly 3 years ago. One of my relatives had one which really impressed me, plus I thought it would be really fun to use on vacations. I have taken this camera on all vacations since I purchased it. I used it while scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing and jet-skiing. My Minolta has seen rain, snow, pools, sandy beaches, hot-tubs... you name it.
I sincerely mean it, if you buy this camera, it will replace all others (except your digital camera! I have a Kodak DC-240 and it's awesome! If you are interested in digital, please check-out my very detailed rating on that one at "http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-6AC9-16888C10-3A12D8AC-prod2").
IN CONCLUSION:
I swear by it. You will reap the benefits of an excellent camera when you get your first roll of film developed. And the variety of pictures you are able to take with the Weathermatic is unimaginable. This camera is perfect in my opinion. I highly recommend it!
