Have you dreamed about entering a graduate program? Well, by now you may have worked with your bachelor's degree and made a decent living. In the back of your mind, sits the idea of returning to a nearby university to continue your studies. This is where enters the University of Phoenix, founded in Phoenix since 1976. In 1978, it got accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The University of Phoenix is therefore an accredited, private, post-secondary university that is ready to sell you a product, a solid education in whatever field you choose. What do you need to get started? Unlike the traditional universities which, until lately, had catered mostly to the normal crowd of students moving through the educational system, the university of Phoenix was created with you in mind, the hard-working professional
What are the admission requirements?
If you have the following information, you will be half way there.
* An $85 non-refundable application fee
* An undergraduate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited, or candidate for accreditation, college or university.
* A minimum GPA of 2.5 on the degree-posted transcript
* Post-high school work experience related to the graduate degree program
* Current employment (That's great. All along, that's what you have always wanted.) By the way, the curriculum of the university requires adults to have access to an appropriate work environment on a regular basis for completion of the course activities and assignments!
* If you are a non-native speaker of English, then you will take the following tests (TOEIC, TOEFL or a U.S. high school diploma or G.E.D.)
The Business Of Higher Education: The University of Phoenix knows it well
It makes perfect sense that this university would tap into this huge market. How many heads of family, friends, colleagues and bosses do you know who would like to pursue their education? I am sure that many of them have been baffled or disappointed by the way the higher education system has been working. If any of them manage to close their eyes on other aspects of their family and professional lives to pursue their educational goals, they often do it at the cost of many sacrifices in the end. This is why despite the complaints of some former students and the soaring tuition, many professionals find themselves attracted to the University of Phoenix.
After meeting with a counselor, you will get a pretty good idea of how much it will cost you to get this graduate degree (master of....)Meet Maria, a mother of two, has been working as a social worker for the past 10 years in various capacities. Now that her children are out of the home (empty nester!) she has managed to convince her husband that this is the time for her to get this graduate degree. She made an appointment with a counselor at the university of Phoenix. She knew she would have to get a loan. After meeting with the financial officer, she knew that she can get this Federal loan at a rate of 6%. She can start repaying 6 months after graduation. Roger's situation is much different. He wants to have a Master of Arts in Organizational Management. The difference is that his company will reimburse up to 50 % of his educational fees. What a way to go, Roger! Since this has been the area of my research for two friends of mine. I found out that somebody like Roger will have to pay a total of $16,424.00 for the 39 credits. The requirements for the couse of study include Management 2000, Marketing-The Quest for the Consumer, Economics of the Marketplace, The cultures of Organization, Managing Change, The Learning Organization, Human Resources Issues etc.
The Learning Team as encouraged by Dr. John Sperling, the founder of the univerisity
Collaborative learning
While you pay tuition on a course-by-course basis, you only meet once a week with your teacher and one more night a week with the team to study, consult and work on various topics. While you are juggling school work and everyday life responsibilities, you will find yourself relying on your team mates for support and guidance. Therefore the likelihood for dropping out can be drastically reduced. There are many other benefits you can reap being part of the learning team. You will amass skills which you will be able to transfer to the working world.
I hope that you find this information useful when considering this great educational step to better yourself.
Good luck with your education!
