gym-378's Full Review: Logitech Cordless Wheel (911522-0403) Mouse
Are you tired of cords all over your desk? Keyboard cords, joystick cords, speaker cords...the list goes on and on. It seems like every peripheral on you desk comes with another cord to add to the clutter. Not Anymore!!
Although there are a couple of different manufacturers offering cordless mice, I was really impressed when I received a cordless mouse as a mistake with one of the machines I ordered for my office. After setting up 5 other machines, I was a little confused when I pulled the mouse out of the plastic wrap and there was no cord. For a minute, I thought the cord might have gotten cut in the packing, but after looking the mouse over, I realized that this thing never had a cord.
Having heard about the new cordless mice, I thought I'd give it a try and see how it performed. After 15 minutes, I was really impressed!
The Setup
Let's see...you don't have to plug it in. However, you do have to plug in the receiver which takes about 10 seconds. As with most other Logitech devices, you need to install the mouse-specific drivers which takes another couple of minutes. Finally, synchronize the mouse with the receiver by pressing a button, set up the functions for each button, and your mousing!! The setup took less than five minutes and that included running through the configuration software.
The Performance
Wouldn't it be cool if you could lean back in that big, cushy office chair of yours and point your mouse wherever you wanted to click?? Well now you can. Just lean back, put a book in your lap with your mousepad on top and this little doozy is just like the remote control for your TV. Just point and click. In fact, you can walk halfway across the room (as long as it's not a big room) and still control your cursor, although the farther away you get, the more exaggerate your mouse movements become.
For normal mousing, it's excellent. For gaming, it's tops!!! No more hunching over your keyboard limited by the length of your mouse cord. No more yanking the cord out of your computer when you strafe left, just to avoid that enemy missile. Now you can sit back and enjoy the game in comfort.
The Feel
Okay...so there has to be one little con. Although the mouse was designed to be ergonomically correct, I really didn't like the feel at first. While it has grown on me a little, I still like the shape of the Microsoft mice better. But for the freedom of not having a cord, I'm willing to put up with the long, strange-feeling shape.
Overall
Freedom, freedom, freedom!!! Because of this mouse's ability to leave the desktop and because it functions so well, I give it a 5 out of 5 for performance. However, the plain look and funny feel have to kick it down a notch. The price is about even with other mice so overall I have to give it a 4 out of 5.
If you want to clean up your desktop and free your mouse from it's confines, I highly recommend you check out the Logitech Cordless Wheel Mouse. It's a liberating experience!
