Pros: easy and quick read for youngsters
cute illustrations, rhythmic text make for a great read-aloud
Cons: too short
a sentient stuffy can be a confusing concept
The Bottom Line: A sweet and somewhat silly story showing how real stuffy friends can seem to the very young.

| jiastar's Full Review: Gus Clarke - Eddie and Teddy |
Our Family
I picked up this book for my oldest daughter, now 11, when she was about age 1. I don't remember where I purchased it, but I got a great deal because there is a 99cent price sticker on the back.
Anyhow, it was her favorite story-book and at one point I had it memorized in self-defense as I had to tell it multiple times a day (and night) for a long long time.
My younger daughter, also loves this story and in fact we just read it today. Though thankfully she is not as obsessed with it. She especially enjoys looking for the funny details in the illustrations.
Story in Summation:
A boy and his bear are best friends. They have been together since they were both in diapers but now things are changing.
Eddie goes off to his first day of school and Teddy has to stay home. As expected, Eddie sheds some tears, at least until he starts doing new things and meeting new kids. However, as you might not expect, Teddy sheds some tears too. He also throws a tantrum. And no matter what Eddie's mom tries, from "special medicine" to reading a story, Teddy stays miserable until Eddie is finally home.
However, the next day Teddy gets to go to school too and apparently this is the beginning of a trend that ends with an adult Eddie and his Teddy both in business suits carrying briefcases.
Positives and Negatives:
a sweet tale that any child who has a stuffy they are inseparable from can relate to
sweet pictures with lots of small details to look for
each page's text ranges from just a few words to a sentence at most
one line where mom tries to cheer Teddy up with some "special pink medicine" is simply inappropriate ... children should never be shown medicine being given to "cheer someone up"
Illustration Details:
Eddie and Teddy are seen wearing matching outfits almost all of the time
When Eddie and Teddy need bandaging, look to see the cat and a toy train having received first aid as well
A "family" of birds where one "child" is going off to school with a satchel in wing, while their sibling is crying.
Snacking Squirrels
Pink medicine all over mom, and the cat
A child on the monkey-bars with their pants about their ankles
Birds in bathrobes
A ball having been "kicked" from one painting into another (as well as arrows shot from one painting into another) on the back of the classroom
A black-and-white TV show on the television
