| Chalathra's Full Review: Wuv Luvs |
My children were thrilled to wake up Easter morning to find that the Easter Bunny (AKA my mother in law) had brought them both their own Wuv Luv. The excitement of the commercials for these little critters were enough to get my girl’s want lists re-prioritized, while visions of Amazing Amy danced in my head! My then, 5 year old daughter, Mishell’s Wuv Luv came in here favorite color- BLUE! Yay! My three year old, Toria’s was aqua. They cared not about the colors they got...They wanted the egg!
WuvLuv:
The WuvLuv is a ‘critter’ (I wouldn’t classify it as a ‘doll’ per say) that resembles McDonald’s Grimace in my eyes. Her eyes are huge and round and move around while being played with. She has long black eyelashes and wears a happy smile. Atop her head is her t-shaped antenna. The red sensor sits on top, while the sides light up at the appropriate times. You will get a brush with your WuvLuv as well. She has a pouch, similar to a kangaroo which holds the egg she will soon deliver.
How do you play with the WuvLuv:
There are three ways in which you can interact with your WuvLuv. As you play with her, she will talk to you. You may pet her back, rock her in your arms, or talk and sing to her. Your WuvLuv will also tell you when she is hungry. You may feed her “Num-Nums” (play flowers that come with her) or just push on the bottom of her mouth. She will make eating sounds while you feed her. If WuvLuv goes 3 minutes without being played with, she will then go to sleep.
Congratulations! It’s a girl!
The commercials show these happy toys delivering an egg. Inside the egg awaits your WuvLuv’s baby. (And some Wuv Luvs will have twins!) That being said, Mishell had decided before even owning a WuvLuv, that hers would be one to have twins. Forget the odds, her WuvLuv would have twins! The egg will be delivered after playing with the Mommy WuvLuv for thirty minutes straight. Your WuvLuv cannot fall asleep during these thirty minutes, otherwise the eggs arrival time will have to start all over again.
However...once she has been played with for those thirty minutes, she will announce “Here Comes Baby!” Her antenna will blink for 30 seconds. She says “Here Comes Baby!” again. Her antenna will blink another 30 seconds. Give WuvLuv a comforting pet (She is delivering a baby afterall!) After you pet WuvLuv, she will begin a countdown. You can wait until the end of the countdown, or you can pet WuvLuv one more time to speed things up. She will then deliver an egg containing her baby!
You also get a birth certificate in which you can record your Baby WuvLuv’s name (Given to it by Mommy WuvLuv), and the date, time, and place of its birth.
What’s The Baby Like:
MUCH to Mishell’s disbelief, both our WuvLuvs were happy mothers to single babies. Once the baby is born, the critter takes on a whole new role. She is now a Mommy! And you will know it, because she will ask for her baby continuously until you introduce them to each other by placing the baby WuvLuv in front of Mommy. Here is where their interaction begins!
When you pet your baby WuvLuv on the back, the first order of business is taken care of: Naming the baby! Your mommy WuvLuv will name her baby. Then, each time you pet baby WuvLuv on the back, your WuvLuvs will interact with each other. Whether it be Mommy WuvLuv stating the fact that baby is hungry or them singing a song.
They will sing the alphabet song and “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” together. The baby will start by saying the first part, then Mommy will sing the second part, and then its Baby WuvLuv’s turn again. They will continue taking turns singing parts of the song until the song is complete.
Yup! You Can Reload:
I was curious as to knowing whether this birthing experience was a one shot deal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that you can reload the baby back into Mommy WuvLuv to give birth all over again. You do this in a seven step manner. Your Mommy will then be ready to deliver all over again!
My Surprise:
If you have read my review of the Amazing Amy doll, you know why I feared the WuvLuv. But, I must say, I am happy to report that overall, I like the WuvLuv. Unlike Amazing Amy, Wuv Luv is kid friendly. It is very easy to find the sensor on her back, causing her to interact with you. It loves to be rocked- very easy for a young child to perform. Getting her to eat when she is hungry is only a matter of pressing on her mouth. I was happy to find this critter’s acceptance of my children’s young ages.
It All Works:
This toy meets its claims. It really does all it says it is going to do. It even has a trouble shooting guide that will help you with any possible problems you run into while using the WuvLuv.
-Cons-
She’s Still Waiting:
Not only is Mishell convinced that her WuvLuv is going to have twins, she is angered when I try and tell her that there is not another egg in her WuvLuv waiting to be hatched. Yes, she thinks there is another egg in her WuvLuv somewhere and is impatiently awaiting another arrival that will never come.
Okay, so how did I get here:
I am very open with my children regarding certain matters. However, for those that do not want to address the ‘Where do babies come from?’ question yet, this critter may promote these type of questions.
Attitude:
Toria’s Wuv Luv found herself an attitude on her second day. She would not interact- no matter what we did. It did cause frustration and Toria was disappointed. I assumed she had broke it (Something she is good at) But, alas, the next day in the car, her WuvLuv came back to life and was more than happy to continue interacting.
Does She Shut Off:
It is stated that your WuvLuv will go to sleep after not being played with for three minutes. This is true... but keep in mind, Wuv Luv finds talking as interaction. Therefore, you may have to literally put your WuvLuv in a closet to get her to be quiet.
DON’T Lose Anything:
The WuvLuv comes with a ‘key’ that you will need if you want to reload baby. There is also a pull thing in the baby that cannot be misplaced. Any children’s toy that contains parts you cannot lose can become problems.
Where Can I get One of These?
WuvLuvs can be found at any toy store. I have also seen them in Target and Walmart. I even saw them being sold in Rite-Aid. My mother in law got ours from Save On's. If you search and just cannot find them, they do have a website you can buy off of. www.wuvluvs.com
In Conclusion:
Although Mishell still waits for another egg delivery and Toria’s WuvLuv is choosy about when to play, I do like this WuvLuv critter. I keep the girls WuvLuv’s up and they come down by special request only from my daughters. I still believe this toy would be easily broken by Toria, so it is supervised play. But, the WuvLuv does what she claims to do!
Thanks for reading!
