I kiddingly said in my review of Kohl's charge card that the only thing that would make it perfect is if it offered a card with no finance charges. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?
For customers of Von Maur, it isn't a dream. It's reality.
First off, for those of you who don't live in the Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and Nebraska areas, you may have never heard of Von Maur's.
Von Maur's has been around since 1872 as a family owned and operated department store. With 18 stores in six different states, Von Maur's is known for their excellent customer service.
What's the catch you may ask? I would classify Von Maur's as an upscale department store. They mainly carry designer labels and unless you walk into one of their great sales, don't expect to come out of there with anything cheap (in price).
Von Maur's charge card program is unique in that there is no interest, no finance charge, no monthly/annual fee, and no delinquency charges. Why do they do this? Perhaps it is because they are still a family owned and operated outfit. They can add those personal touches as a thank you for shopping at their store. Some of the other personal touches they add are free gift wrapping and free shipping to anywhere in the U.S.
But back to the credit card...
Von Maur has two types of charge programs - regular revolving credit and long term option. The long term option can be used for all purchases over the amount of $300. You sign that at the time of the purchase and that allows you to pay for the item in 10 installment payments.
Otherwise, the minimum payment due on your revolving account is based upon what your balance is. For example, if your balance is $200, your minimum payment would be $45. You can generally count on your minimum payment to be 1/5 of your balance.
Their Credit Card statement is very easy to read. They show the purchases you made through the last billing period, your minimum amount for payment, and when your payment is due.
You have the option of paying your Von Maur bill through the snail mail, at one of their locations, or through your electonic bill payor.
In the three years that I have had a Von Maur charge card, I have never had any issues with wrong amounts credited or charged to my account.
In the end, if you're a shopper of Von Maur, there really isn't any real reason why you shouldn't have this card.
