Since coming back from my family Caribbean cruise this past Sunday, I have been plagued with a bad cold again. I was quite surprised as I usually only get sick once in the winter season and that already happened in October. But I guess with the weather change and rooming with my sick cousin, I was more susceptible to getting sick again.
I came home Sunday with a sore throat, by Monday I was feeling worse and coughing violently. I turned to my medicine cabinet and the fresh box of Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps that I had bought when I was sick in October. Each box contains 12 softgels. The package is safety sealed and child resistant
meaning that the softgels come in blister packaging. The packaging is hard for any adult to get into, so you would have to have one strong child if they are able to get into the blister packaging.
The daytime, non-drowsy, stuffy head, sore throat, coughing, aching, fever relief to help get back your energy cold medicine.
Ingredients:
Active
acetaminophen for aches and fever
dextromethorphan for cough
pseudoephedrine for nasal congestion
Inactive
FD&C red no. 40, FD&C yellow no. 6. gelatin, glycerin, polyethylene glycol, povidone, propylene glycol, purified water, sorbitol special, titanium dioxide.
Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps are supposed to have a non-drowsy formula that only temporarily relieves cold symptoms:
~ cough
~ fever
~ headache
~ minor aches and pains
~ nasal congestion
~ sore throat
Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps are alcohol-free and antihistamine free. Adult and children over 12 should only take 2 softgels every 6 hours. Children under 12 should consult their doctor. No one should exceed 8 softgels in 24 hours.
If youre symptoms persist for more than 7 days, you should definitely contact your doctor and discontinue use of this medication. And of course if your symptoms get worse or other symptoms occur. As with most medications, please keep away from children despite the blister packaging.
I have to say that these Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps do not work as well as the liquid cough syrup does. Though they do relieve minor symptoms more than major symptoms. I was able to feel my chest congestion, nasal congestion and headache lighten slightly, but not completely disappear. My cough and sore throat is currently too persistent for these softgels to work on it. And the symptoms only disappear temporarily, but thats as expected.
The one thing I do like about these softgels is that they really do have a non-drowsy formula. I have been using Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps for years and can take them and have no fear about driving or going to work. In my last job I had to drive constantly and its just good to know that I wont feel any effects of this medication while taking them.
You can purchase these softgels at most supermarkets and drugstores, including Walgreens, Drugstore.com and CVS.com. I usually pay anywhere between $3.99 and $4.99 for these softgels, depending on what kind of sale is going on and what coupons I have.
Overall, I do have to recommend these Vicks Dayquil Liqui-Caps for relieving minor symptoms because they are easy to swallow, relieve the symptoms, and are relatively inexpensive. If you are having full-blown and very persistent symptoms, I doubt these softgels will work for you. But its good to know I can depend on these softgels to at least get me through the day until I can get home and take something stronger.
