The Bottom Line: Not just for the best, that is a chauvinistic myth. They can mean YOUR way to better golf overall, adds distance, confidence in driving, approaching AND putting. Truly superior ball.
I simply got tired of reading advice from pretentious and arogant golfers ( with a few honorable exceptions, of course) who have led to believe that Premium balls are not for the average golfer (mid handicappers like myself). The PROV1 is a tremendous ball, worth every dollar you pay for them.
This review is for all of you golfers out there who believe that good golf is a combination of many elements, but the ball plays a very important role in it. This expensive but awesome ball may very well be suited for you after all! Since I switched to Titleistīs ProVīs, my game has been different: longer tee shots, more fairways, more greens, better feeling putts, and definetly lowers scores.
HOW MUCH? I have a 20 handicap, and since I switched to this ball (3 months ago), I consistently shoot in the 80īs.
As one friend put it: "golf is very much a mental game, and when you find something that YOU believe works for you, STICK to it". In my case, this ball has added a much needed ingredient in my game: CONFIDENCE. And for me, this is worth a LOT more than the cost of the ball. Instead of thinking NOT to lose the ball, I concentrate on GOOD shot making (think on the objective, not on the outcome).
If you are SERIOUS about your golf game (regardless of your handicap, because this is something about ATTITUDE, not skill), then the ProV1 is definetly an upgrade.
WHY?
1.- It is the best feeling ball in the market today. I even compare it with hitting sotting the ball with your hand. True, Titleist Tour Balatas and Professional 90īs are as good or better feeling, but they are not sold anymore. Once you learn to appreciate how much a good feeling ball is capable of improve your hitting confidence, you will really come to love this type of balls. Nothing else will do.
2.- Outstanding distance. This ones go long. Hit them with a good rythm, not for all out smackers. These balls love to be treated nicely, and when you do this, they pay back with tremendous accuracy and distance. The likes I had never seen before. I hit my driver like an old man (slow and 3/4 backswing), but I squeeze 260-270 drives with this ball 90% of the time. But the real beauty is on the long irons and fairway woods. For me it meant 10% more effective distance JUTS by using this ball. Ahh...and also they are extremely fine rollers on the fairway.
3.- Accuracy. The perfect combination for distance.Concentrate on the ball and on good contact, and the ball will do the rest.
4.- Nothing putts better. Forget about Wilsonīs True. They do not feel half as good as ProV1īs. I noticed (as well as my usual golf partners) a sensible improvement on distance control. Want hard data? My putting average dropped from 2.8 to 2.2 in just 3 months. Same putter, same grip, same everything...except for the ball.
5.- They really bite those greens! No more of those "roll out of the green" screams on long approaches, They absolutely stay on the dance floor. Flop shots and approaches with 56 to 60 degree wedges get to be so much fun now!. I like to go for the flag, and the ProV1 may not improve your faulty alignment, but it will certanly help you stay on the green.
Hey, they sure have work wonders for me. Perhaps you are another mid handicapper who just got spooked off using these balls just because "mis-hits" fly a lot worse with them. Based on my experence, they do not make it MUCH worse. The high price woulkd be another con, but I honestly prefer a ball that is technologically capable of improving my game, than keep playing "less than spectacular" rounds worrying about not to lose the ball.
I STRONGLY advice you guys between 24 and 16 Hdcp. to give this ball a try. For me, this experiment led to a noticeable improvement in my overall game. Wouldnīt you just love that?
Anyway...it is up to you. It paid off great for me.
