| annecal's Full Review: Theraflu Cold & Cough Night Time Hot Liquid Formul... |
I think I may be turning into a Theraflu junkie. I've had a nasty cold/flu thing that I just can't seem to shake, and Theraflu has been my drug of choice as I battle this plague. There are several different kinds of Theraflu, some drowsy and some non-drowsy. I'm reviewing the Night Time "drowsy" formula. I think the photos that epinions has up are a little dated, because there are primarily two kinds of drowsy formula in the natural lemon flavor- there is the cold and cough in the red box, and the severe cold one in the green box. They have the same ingredients, but the green box contains more Acetaminophen (1000 vs. 600 mg) than the one in the red box. So, depending on how much body ache/sore throat you have, you'll either want the green box (lots of pain) or the red box (not as much pain)- which is the one I am reviewing.
Theraflu will treat your headache, cough, fever, sore throat, body aches, stuffy nose, and the other various things that come with the cold/flu. There are three primary ingredients- Acetaminophen(Pain reliever/Fever reducer), Pseudoephedrine (Nasal decongestant), Dextromethorphan hydrobromide (Cough suppressant), and Chlorpheniramine Maleate (Antihistamine). It's the Antihistime that'll make you sleepy, so check the box for that if you want to be knocked out or not. Also, some kinds of Theraflu have very high doses of Acetaminophen (tylenol), so be sure not to drink when you take this medicine!
The directions indicate that you should open a packet into a mug and add hot water, stir and drink. You should not exceed 4 packets in 24 hours.
I've read a couple of other reviews on this product, and maybe I'm nuts, but I like the taste of Theraflu. It tastes like hot lemonade. It's very lemony, and a little bit on the bitter/tart side, but I like it. I like it a lot- in fact, I wish there was a hot lemon drink like this, sans the drugs, and I'd sip it all winter long!
I like that it's a hot liquid, and find it very soothing when my throat is raw and sore. I also find that within about 20 minutes, it has kicked in, and I'm feeling better and often ready for a nap.
I've been using this product for a couple of years now, and always come back to it when I'm feeling rotten- and it always does the trick for me. It does relieve my symptoms, and makes me feel a whole lot better.
The downside is the price- it can cost up to $6.99 for a package containing 6 doses. Well if you're home with the flu, you're going to be taking the medicine pretty regularly, and that's about $7 for a day and a half of medicine, which I think is a bit on the exhorbitant side, but I gladly pay it, because I know it'll work.
The last thing I'll say about this product is that there are a LOT of varieties of it out there- many, many kinds of Theraflu... so take the time and look at the back of the package- it tells you very clearly how much of each drug is in each kind, and what the drug does- this is the best way to make sure you're getting what you need and nothing else.
On the whole I highly recommend Theraflu- I wish it were a little cheaper, or that you got more packets for the money, but other than that, I have no complaint. I like the taste (I know, maybe I'm a freak), and I think it works quickly and effectively.
