I am reviewing The Healing Garden Jasminetherapy. At the time I bought it I also really splurged and bought the matching candle and cologne spray.
About the product
The Healing Garden is a line that considers themselves “aroma therapies for your mind + body + spirit.”
They come in other scents such as teatherapy and cucumber therapy but I bought Jasmine, which has jasmine and ylang-ylang in it.
It comes in a plastic tube with The Healing Garden’s logo on it, which is a flower set in what looks like gold. It is very pretty and unusual in that all the letters are small so it is written "the healing garden jasminetherapy" on the tube.
I bought the 7 fluid ounce size and paid $4.99. It also can be bought in a 1.85 fluid ounce tube for $1.93 at cvs.com.
This is a pink lotion and is advertised as a “sensual massage lotion.” We are told that it will leave our skin warm, soft, silky and sexy.
It claims to be rich in moisturizer and blended with natural extracts of passion flower, neroli and ylang ylang. From Ivillage (http://www.substance.com/body/ahs/aroma/article/0,11462,223867,00.html) Ylang ylang is “Tall and willowy, the majestic ylang-ylang or perfume tree displays clusters of large star-shaped flowers on downward-drooping branches. These unusual flowers range in color from white to pink to yellow to yellowish green. Their fragrance is fresh and floral, sweet and seductive, exciting and exotic. This refreshing scent is relaxing, almost intoxicating. “
From the same source, neroli is “Pale yellow neroli oil emits a sweet, full-bodied citrus aroma with a slightly spicy, slightly bitter undertone. Neroli oil is produced from the delicate white blossoms of the bitter orange or Seville orange tree. This evergreen tree bears glossy, dark green oval leaves, and in May and October, an abundance of small white flowers appear. One ton of hand-picked blossoms from Citrus aurantium, Citrus bigaradia or Citrus vulgaris yields only one quart of neroli oil, or orange blossom oil.
Neroli oil increases circulation and stimulates new cell growth. It can prevent scarring and stretch marks. It is useful in treating skin conditions linked to emotions or stress, as it calms the emotions as well as the skin. “ More information on these oils can be found at Ivillage”
The Healing Garden’s website is http://www.healinggarden.com/home.html where you can get a sample of one of the company's products. You will see the link sample on the top of the page.
It has an easy to open flip top making it not great to travel with. Make sure you put it in a plastic bag because the top can flip open fairly easily.
The smell and texture
Jasminetherapy smells delicious. I would not have bought the candle and spray if I didn’t think that, in fact, it did have a sensual smell to it. This is going to be too flowery smelling for a man to use as a moisturizer but I am sure he won’t mind your using it as a massage lotion. Some women may find the smell too strong even as a massage. I really like it but before you buy it online as a gift for someone, I would want to know if she (or he) likes strong lotions that smell like flowers. My husband wouldn’t care what I massaged on him, so I bought it because I liked it knowing that he would also. Of course, the candle is a nice touch if you are using this as a “sensual massage lotion” and the spray is an even nicer touch if you want to go all out. The candle was $8.99, though, so be prepared to spend a bit of money but these products last for a long time so, in my opinion it is worth it.
This is a thick pink cream that rubs in easily and smoothly. It isn’t sticky. It may feel a bit greasy but as a moisturizer being used as a massage lotion it is perfect. I wouldn’t use this on my body after a shower in the morning when I am substitute teaching, that is for sure. The smell does linger so unlike some moisturizers that smell nice but the smell gets absorbed quickly, this one will last for awhile. Unless you have a long ride to work, save this for nighttime use!
Other information
Unfortunately since this product is made by Coty, it is tested on animals. I will give you the ingredients from the bottle. It seems and looks like it should be made of more natural ingredients, but there are many that can’t be pronounced:
Water, mineral oil, fragrance, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl, myristate, stearic acid, sorbital, dimethicone glyceryl stearate 8E, triethanolamine, isopropyl, lanolate, imidazolidinyl urea, peg-2M, methylparaben, propylene glycol, benzophenone-4, propylparaben, polysorbate 20, orange flower extract, passion flower extract, ylang ylang extract, D&C red #33, fd&c red #4.
Avoid contact with eyes and if you do happen to get it in your eyes (though I don’t recommend it for your face.) flush with water. If you are giving a massage only go up to the neck area, around the ears, and even the forehead but just use a little bit. A little of this goes a long way anyway. Just a dime size dollop covers my leg!
More of my thoughts
I like this product and would buy it again although I do wish it had fewer chemicals in it. I keep saying I am going to only buy products in the health food store but the drugstore chains always catch me! The product does what it claims. My body does feel smooth and silky. It definitely feels moisturized whether I am using it just for me or am getting massaged with it. The sexy part is what you make of sexy! You can feel sexy using fish oil if the timing is right, but I’d go with The Healing Garden Jasminetherapy on my husband before using cod liver oil!
I am going to recommend this but can only give it a 4 because it is tested on animals. The price is great. You will be hard pressed to find a lotion like this for $5.00 and don’t forget to buy the candle. I would forgo the spray if I bought this again or one of the other aromatherapies. I think you can overdo a good thing.
Let me know if you have any questions and if you buy this today, have a great night. There is a saying that hippies didn't die they just became message therapists. My husband and I took a massage course awhile back. It wasn't expensive and it was a lot of fun. I would recommend learning the art of massage but don't let that stop you from digging right in. Even if you don't know what you are doing, the physical touch alone is healing.
