Early on in my pregnancy I started using a few of the Cocoa Butter products from The Body Shop. Now just a week away from my delivery I've found myself totally hooked and actually use most of the products in the line on a regular basis. This Body Shop Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Stick was one that was recommended to me as a solution for soothing stretched/itchy skin on my ever growing belly and to help minimize stretch marks.
About The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Stick
The manufacturer makes the following claims (as taken from their website):
Community Trade sesame oil also goes into this handy moisturizer that softens rough areas like knees and elbows. Also great for softening stretched skin during pregnancy.
This product looks like a giant tube of chapstick, or similar to a roll-on deoderant. Its packaged in a tan and brown oval tube/stick with a dial on the bottom to push up the product (which is a creamy tan color). To apply it you simply remove the cap and then glide the product onto your skin to moisturize the area. A 2.6oz tube/stick of this sells for $12.50. You can purchase it at a Body Shop brick & mortar store, online at www.thebodyshop.com or via a Body Shop at Home representative.
My experience
I've used this throughout my pregnancy to help "spot treat" any dry areas on my ever growing belly that is effected by itchy, stretching and dry skin. I purchased it not only to soothe the skin but also to hopefully help minimize the appearance of stretch marks which are (lets face it) an inevitable of being pregnant. I happen to be a bellydancer and I want to keep those pesky stretch marks to a minimum so that when this kid has finally made its way out of me I'll be back to baring my midriff sooner than later and feel good about it.
So, does it work? Well, I do have a few stretch marks that have appeared in this final trimester. But, I can tell you that they are actually not that bad and I'm hopeful they will fade out or go away. Is this due to using this Body Shop Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Stick and other Cocoa Butter line products? I cannot say that for certain it is, but I'm sure that keeping my skin moisturized and the healing effects of the cocoa butter have not made things any worse for the wear. I can for certain say that this product does some serious help to getting rid of dry and itchy patches and spots.. making life a bit more comfortable (especially during these most uncomfortable months and the final countdown).
Believe it or not I've had the same stick for my entire pregnancy and its just about gone, making this a well spent $12.50! I've noticed that over time the stick has gotten a little bit dried out and it doesnt glide on as well as it did when I first purchased it, but for something I've used for as long as I have - I'm not complaining.
This moisturizing stick has a very light scent of cocoa butter and provides instant treatment to whatever dry area you roll it onto. It does seem a little silly to be rolling it over prego belly, but whatever works, right? I like that its not messy, is quick and easy to use and doesn't come off on my clothing at all.
Now, as far as moisturizing and soothing things - my most favorite product from the Cocoa Butter line happens to be the Cocoa Butter Body Butter. If I had to recommend just one product in the line to expectant mothers I suggest the slightly more expensive but more nourishing, Cocoa Butter Body Butter. Still, for a quick fix to stop the itches at an affordable price this Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Stick is a winner!
