| adage's Full Review: The Blue Nile |
One of Berkeley's greatest features is its diverse food establishments.
The Blue Nile, which serves Ethiopian fare, is a wonder. There are dishes for veggie eaters and meat eaters. A fun way to dine is to bring along several people and eat 'family style' - where everyone's dish is put in the middle of the table and shared. The a soft, moist and fluffy crepe like bread is one of the staple items to your meal. You pick up whatever you ordered (lamb, veggies, steak, chicken, beans) with this special bread with your fingers! Dinner without eating utensils is something everyone should try at least once.
A warning though, while many dishes are spicy as in rich in spices, some can be spicy hot too...but that only requires eating more of the lovely special bread =) [For reference, I usually eat the medium and hot salsas.] The honey wine and fruity banana drinks are rather yummy too.
The decor is neat; they try to give you a sense of what Ethiopian culture is about. The front tables are separated by beaded curtains, and there are many interesting objects hanging on the walls. My only problem with the atmosphere was the tables are too close together and the lighting needs to be brighter.
