My son took up an interest bowling, so I decided to join him. I didn't want to spend a fortune on my first bowling ball and after consulting with several bowling authorities (pro-shops, on-line companies, etc.) I discovered that the ball that best met my criteria of being cheap but durable would be a plastic ball. That left me to consider the Target Zone by Brunswick, White Dot by Columbia, and Maxim by Ebonite. Much to my dismay there really appeared to be no "best" ball... each expert I consulted with said a plastic ball is a plastic ball and that my choice really would come down to which color/design I liked the most. (Side note - ball choice does become much more important once you start taking the game to a higher level) After much angst and confusion I finally chose the Red/Black/Gold Target Zone. I had it drilled at my local bowling alley and have used it a few times since then. Being a beginner, I can't tell you how well it does with complicated hook shots or anything like that, but I can tell you that I can consistently get it down the lane pretty much where I want it. I chalk up the misses to user error!
