Staceys1's Full Review: Strawberry Shortcake Strawberryland Fillies - Hone...
My daughter recently had her Kindergarten &"Stepping Up" ceremony and as a treat I took her to the toy store where she was allowed to pick out a small toy as a celebratory present. After putting much thought into what she would be taking home, she ended up with Honey Pie who is Strawberry Shortcake's favorite horse and one of the Strawberryland Fillies. I thought that this was a good choice since it would compliment her Strawberry Shortcake doll.
Honey Pie is about six and a half inches tall, five inches long and is made of hard plastic. She is honey-colored with brown spots and white accents around her ankles and on her face. Her tail and mane are made of long blond hair, and she even has bangs. The horse can stand by herself and her legs are slightly jointed so that they can be moved back and forth somewhat.
Honey Pie is recommended for ages 4 and up, and that is due to the small accessories that are included in the package. The horse herself, other than the hair being put into a child's mouth, would not pose any real problems other than the fact that it is very hard plastic and could hurt if somebody was hit with it.
A small pink comb is included, along with a ponytail holder with a felt flower on it and two hair clips: one that looks like a delicious strawberry shortcake which has a lock of pink hair attached and one that looks like three scoops of ice cream which has a lock of blond hair attached. These hairclips are very difficult for my five year old daughter to open and close by herself, but the good point to that is that once they re attached to the horse's mane or tail, they are secure.
The other accessory is a set of four pink elasticized material "bracelets" (similar to a hair scrunchy) that can dress up the horse's legs. Of course, if your child is anything like mine, these items will soon become rings for her to wear.
According to the box, The Strawberryland Fillies live on Ice Cream Island and Strawberry Shortcake and her friends need to help them get ready for the annual "Festival of the Fillies" event. Included are a number of cardboard cutouts such as a sign that says "Honey Pie" and two hurdles for the horse to jump over. These can stand up if they are attached to the smaller cardboard stands that are included, if they are on a flat surface (not a rug), and if nobody breathes heavily - in other words, they do not stand up very well.
There are also small cardboard cutouts depicting berry shampoo and conditioner, horseshoes, a ribbon and a trophy so that you can pretend to wash the horse, make her beautiful and then parade her around before awarding her the prize.
Honey Pie is compatibly sized for the five-inch tall Strawberry Shortcake series of dolls. Though the doll cannot sit on the horse unassisted, the doll can easily be held in place while trotting the horse around.
According to the box, this toy is supposed to be scented, and though it doesn't indicate the scent, I would guess it purports to be honey. My five year old insists the toy does in fact smell sweet like honey, though I really do not smell anything.
Prior to seeing this toy on the store shelf, I do not think that my daughter knew that the "Strawberryland Fillies" existed, but she has certainly taken a strong liking to Honey Pie. Of course, now we have the problem of her wanting to buy Milkshake, Cookie Dough and Orange Twist, who are all of Honey Pie's horse friends!
