| TimThompson's Full Review: Stanley Bostitch Stanley Bostitch Framing Nailer N... |
I bought my N80SB-1 about four years ago when I started doing quite a bit of framing in my remodeling business. I looked at the Senco, Paslode, and Porter Cable nail guns at the same time. I bought the Bostich based on price and trust in the brand name.
This gun has served me quite well over the years, I oil it before each use and have not had to have any repairs or service performed on it. It will shoot a wide variety of sizes and types of nails. It is rare to have a nail not driven flush or nicely countersunk.
Now for the things I don't like about the gun. It is heavy and the head is bulky compared to the newer Paslodes. It is hard to get true galvanized nails for(a real problem when doing exterior projects), it tends to double shoot when used in tight areas and not allowed to recoil fully, and the toe nailing spurs on the safety could be sharper.
If I had to buy a new framing nailer today, it would be the Hitachi or the Paslode, because they fit my needs better. If all I did was frame walls and build roofs or just occasionally needed a framing gun I would buy the Stanley again in a heartbeat. The nails that are available locally for me are cheaper than the other brands and I can get stainless steel nails through mail order for the exterior projects that demand true weather resistance.
