| LILvoyce's Full Review: Spin Master Air Hogs: Radio Control Intruder Airpl... |
My son has alway wanted a remote controlled airplane. My mom had her heart set on a product from Radio Shack. The Spin Master Air Hogs: Radio Control flew in, and out of our lives in an instant.
I wanted to give a more thorough description of this product, but my mother took this gift back to the store, just as soon as my son opened it. I was fit to be tied, and wanted to review it any way.
Assembly
The assembly of the Spin Master Air Hogs: Radio Control Intruder Airplane was very easy. It took a total of about 5 minutes to put the plane together, and two minutes to charge the plane. This plane also has a Radio Controller which requires 6 double A batteries.
The actual plane only came in two pieces, that were easy attached, and able to remove in case you want to place the plane back in the box.
Crash and Burn
My son was so hyped when he opened his Spin Master Air Hogs: Radio Control Intruder Airplane. His eyes lit up, and we were out the door, just as fast as he opened his gift.
It took less time for my son to cry, when his plane crashed to pieces after about 30 seconds of use, than it did to put the plane together.
Our Experience
I thought that wind would be a problem, so we went out on a day that was pretty calm. I followed the instructions about launching the plane in the proper direction. It went upward fast. Before my son could react it banked a sharp turn to the right and crashed to the ground. I then tried having him keep his hand on the control turning it left as soon as I threw it. It still went upward fast, banked left and right about one time, and still came crashing down fast.
By the second time it crashed the wings broke in the middle. I tried to tape it and it appeared to work. We went out to try it again. I launched it again and when it crashed this time the tail finally broke off and it was a gonner. My son enjoyed his brief flying lessons, but overall it was a disappointment to him, as well as the person giving the gift.
My Biggest Complaint
Mom did not tell me how much she spent on this plane, but was very upset. She said that it was very over priced. I would expect something like this from a Dollar Store type of product, but she purchased this product from Radio Shack. Radio Shack has always carried products that are reliable, and most of the time, a higher price tag.
From the photo outside the box, this plane looked like it was made durable. Was it ever a disappointment.
I would not pay more that about $3.00 for this plane. It had very poor construction, seemed top heavy, and was made of styrofoam. I am sure that she paid well over $30 for this plane. The worse part of the deal, is that when she went to take this product back, Radio Shack would not give her the cash back. She was given a gift card. What a bummer, my son could not find anything that he was really interested in, and settled for the first thing he saw in the store.
Overall?
This is a product to avoid, unless you just want to throw your money out the window. Be prepared to take this product back.
*WARNING*
This product is very non-predictable. Only fly in large spaces well away from the street, and trees. Use only with parental supervision.
I feel it is an accident waiting to happen.
