I now have owned this HDTV for a few months and my feelings have somewhat changed.
The name of the game with this television is patience. You must also spend a lot of time tweaking the picture settings until you get it the way you like it.
Connected to the television I have
1. Sony Playstation 2 with component hookup
Make sure from within the sony setup menu (boot ps2, without game) You set the video out to
Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr. Most importantly, after this, make sure you set the screen to 16:9. I did not switch the screen size originally and left it a 4:3 and it looked like hell. The Mad-Catz cable works the SAME as the Sony component cable and cost $25 less. I thought this was the original issue, it was not, CHECK YOUR SETTINGS!
2. Sony DVP-NS70H DVD player with HDMI Connection
Picture looks great, DVD scales picture to 1080i, I think it looks fantastic. Only problem I have seen is when I was watching
Karas:The Prophecy -http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7034856.
During a fight scene in the beginning, lot of flying around and gun lasers flashing, the screen couldnt quite keep up, It created blocks on the screen, then disappeared. Tried with componenet hookups, also tried an older Pioneer DVD player, samething. Apart from that. Picture normally looks great.
3. Compaq v5210us Laptop using VGA connection - The max resolution you can use is 1024x768 60 hrtz. Picture looks good, dvd playback looked really good,. No complaints
4. Digital cable (Motorolla box) DVI to HDMI connection The picture looks good. The higher channels display a nice picture at 1080i
The dvd player and the cable box I have going through a HDMI switch which I purchased online

THE BAD - the sound is awful. Unless you have an A / V amplifier, look elsewhere. The sound is so bad on this television, it will drive you to keep it turned off! The audio constantly fluctuates.
I keep the speakers turned off on the tv. I run all my audio through a Harmen-Kardon AVR30.
The Remote control is nothing special, basic as basic gets. Unfortunalty, the website states to use Proton codes for universal remotes, these do not work. http://www.soyousa.com/kb/kbdesc.php?id=333
So you are stuck using it. You will be using it quite a bit for flipping through menus to adjust piture quality, which thankfully, there is quite a bit to choose from
Extra cable/gadgets costs -
- Mad Catz Universal component cable (ps2) - $14
- VGA cable -$13 office depot
- HDMI cable - $15 each http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024002&p_id=2283&seq=1&format=2&style=
- HDMI switch Box - $133(shipping)

- HDM to DVI free from Comcast
BUY YOUR CABLES ON LINE. STORES JACK THE PRICES UP 100% IT IS A TOTAL RIPOFF
Compared to everything else out, This TV does just fine for its price range. It may not look as sharp as some other more pricey LCDs. And you may have to spend a lot of time tweaking the picture. But for the price. I am overall happy with what I got. This is definitely a nice stepping stone into the world of HDTV. I am now hungry for something bigger and better though!
