Pros: Fun and easy to use. Easy threading with automatic needle threader. Very nice looking.
Cons: Seems a little bulky to me. No cover which would make storage easier.
The Bottom Line: The Singer 6038 is a great beginner sewing machine. Fun and easy to use with lots of built in stitches. In addition, it is a very attractive sewing machine.

I got my Singer 6038 Sewing Machine as a Christmas gift. I have wanted to take up quilting for a while now, so I asked my husband to get me a sewing machine. He picked out the Singer 6038 based on the style (contemporary style with two tone case and smoothed edges) and 46 stitch functions. He was also looking for a Singer because they have always made high quality sewing machines.
Ease of Use: Excellent. I have not used any sewing machine in years (since using my mother's as a child and home economics in school). I had my Singer 6038 up and sewing in about 5 minutes. The main thing that I remember about the sewing machines I used as a child was that they were almost impossible to thread. This new one is very easy with only about 5 steps. Also, the electric bobbin winder and automatic needle threader are nice improvements from the other machines I have used.
Durability: Good. I deducted one point due to the lack of a cover that snaps onto the machine. I don't know if that is a feature of many sewing machines anymore, but it would be a lot easier to store with a case. Without a case, I worry about sticking it in a closet because of all the parts that could possibly break.
Ease of Cleaning: Excellent. My machine is new, so I have not had to clean it yet. However, I have read the book, and it seems very easy. Machine surfaces can be cleaned with a damp cloth. There are a few parts that will have to be cleaned with a lint brush which is included with the machine.
Style: Very attractive. This machine has a very contemporary look to it. It has a two-tone case and the edges are curved (no sharp edges). I think it is about time for something besides the plain old sewing machines, and Singer has accomplished that with this model.
