| myopinion101's Full Review: Select Comfort Elite Mattress |
I have to admit overall, this bed has been o.k. for us. I have to believe there is a better mattress out there especially for the cost!
The hassle has been having to replace the pillow top layer once so far due to lumps and/or ridges forming that would dig into your body. The company gave us quite a response as they claimed normally they would not replace such a heavily soiled pillow top, regardless of the faulty piece. FYI we are VERY clean people, the returned pillow top had normal wear and tear, FAR from being heavily soiled! We felt insulted by their accusations. Sadly the current pillow top is beginning to break down and lose its effect as well.
We have had to duct tape all corners and edges of plastic components in order them not to squeak while they constantly shift when one makes a movement. Who knows...this probably voided a part of the shady warranty. Although it did stop all squeaks!
Besides the pillow top replacement, these are other parts replaced:
*Left air chamber due to the glue breakdown at the valve opening causing air to escape. Temporary fix, duct tape. Replaced without hassle.
*Remote control began to not work accurately, buttons would not work properly. Replaced without hassle.
CURRENT ISSUE: MOLD MOLD MOLD...did I say MOLD?!
*Bottom foam layer that lays above air chambers has been replaced due to extreme mold caused by condensation between these two parts. According to Company, this is common and this foam layer is a ONE TIME ONLY REPLACEMENT. So I guess when mold forms again from this 'common' occurance, we just have to throw out the bed! The moldy air chamber was not replaced, we were told to clean area with a solution of part bleach & part water. To no avail. Mold is NOT removed that easily from canvas. Ongoing battle not won as of yet. Actions pending further aggravation.
*****UPDATE*****
Have managed to remove mold. Every week when I change bedding/sheets I unzip and remove pillow top; remove all layers of foam to reveal the canvas air chambers where dampness has continued to be trapped within. If mold is present I scrub it (bleach/water) and let completely dry before putting the bed back together. Remind you, this is done EVERY week to keep up with this problem!
So as I mentioned....further aggravation.
*****UPDATE*****
Seems pillow-top is bombing out again. I have added a foam pad over it along with a thick 'expensive' down mattress cover. This has made it a bit more softer on the bones.
Mold is a constant battle as it gets worse and more difficult to remove. Bleach solution discolors and breaks down the foam, I am not coming off victorious.
There's got to be a better mattress! DO YOUR RESEARCH!
