missclarence's Full Review: Samsung SCH-u620 Cell Phone
The nokia 8210 has just arrived in Britain on the 'pay as you go'system. Currently it is 200 pounds to buy on all networks. I have been wanting this phone for about 6 months but up until now have only done it on contract. Therefore i decided to wait until it was available on pay as you go.
Was it worth the wait?
Networks available - The current networks the phone is available on is Vodafone, one 2 one and bt cellnet (all at the same price). I decided to get mine on one 2 one as voice mail is free, calls are relatively cheap and texts are only 10p. The only problem with the one 2 one network is that you cant text abroad. Vodafone charge for voicemail and texts are 12p and Bt cellnet also charge for voicemail. Therefore the one 2 one price plan was more suitable for me.
The pack contains a nokia 8210 mobile, a sim card, pay as you go service information, a battery with up to 3 hours 20 minutes talk time and up to 150 hours standby time, plus a charger that works on all nokia mobiles.
The phone - the disadvantages of buying it on a one 2 one network is that you cant send picture messages and you cant access the internet. But i didnt find that out until i had bought it and started reading the manual.
It is very sleak and stylish! It is very small and is one of the lightest phones around weighing 79 grams. It has a built in ariel therefore is comfortable when in your pocket. You can change the covers for the phone, but the covers are expensive 29.99 pounds for two. It has built in infra red ( i will explain more about that later on). The power key is very small and is hard to turn on and off if you dont have nails. When pressed briefly in the standby mode or during a call, it opens the list of profiles. You can also connect a headset to the phone. The battery is easy to put in. The phone is pretty straight forward to use but isnt as easy to use as the nokia 3310 and 3330 as there are more buttons to use and can sometimes get quite confusing. It does feel a bit funny when speaking to someone on the phone as it is so little its quite far from you mouth, but it is very good for clarity!!! The phone is pretty durable ive dropped it a couple of times and its still in one piece!
Names - You can store up to 250 names and phone numbers on your sim card and the internal phone book can also store 250 names ( each which can have up to 20 characters) and phone numbers (each of which can have up to 30 digits).
Calling someone - To call some one you can either dial their number, look it up in the phone book, use voice tags, or speed dialing. I tend to just look the number up as i can never remember who is which number for speed dialing and voice tags dont work very well. Especially when it is noisy in the background.
You can also copy and print names and phone numbers via Infra Red. But i found this is quite difficult to do and dont really know how to use it. The phone book also includes information numbers of your service providers.
You can also arrange people into caller groups, which allows you to set the phone to a specific ringing tone and a preselected flash graphic on the display when you receive a call from a phone number in a group.
Messages - There are different tones you can have when you receive a message. I prefer the standard one. There are some discreet ones and loud ones or you can just have the phone vibrate to alert you.
Messages are easy to access and read and are straight forward. The phone allows you to delete the message, reply to the message, save the message, forward the message, edit the message, print the message via IR, give you details of the message i.e date and time and also allows you to use the number incase you want to call the person.
The best thing about this phone for those of you who like to send texts instead of ring people is writing messages. You can write and edit text messages of up to 160 characters. You have two methods of writing messages:
1. The method used traditionally in mobile phones
2 and another called 'predictive text input'. (which is the best thing about the phone!) This allows you to key in any characters by single keypresses. This text input is based on a built-in dictionary to which you can add new words. Its superb!!
The phone also allows you to receive and send text messages which contain pictures. These messages are called picture messages and there are already several preset picture messages in the phone. You can also use a fax or data call but to use this function you have to activate the IR port.
Call register - Missed calls - this function allows you to view a list of the last ten phone numbers from which somebody has tried to call you with no success. You can view the date and time of each call, and view, edit, erase or save the number in the phone book.
Received calls - This function allows you to view a list of the ten phone numbers from which you have most recently accepted calls. You can view the date and time of each call, and view, edit, erase or save the number in the phone book.
This menu will also show you your call duration of incoming and outgoing calls. You can clear the times by using clear timers.
Profiles - offers you a convienent way to customise the alert of you phone to suit a variety of events and environments. For example to when you want to turn your phone to silent.
The phone also has the functions:
Alarm clock
Clock
Automatic update of date and time
Any key answer
automatic redial
call waiting options
welcome note
network selection
language
fixed dialing
security level
call diverts - eg to your voicemail. You can record your own.
calculator - very convienent
A calender which always comes in handy!! which has a schedular, which i find amazing!! Very economical!! Good to remind you of peoples birthdays or when you have a meeting etc..
and infra red. - provides access to the phone infrared link for recieving names, numbers or graphics as well as for data transmission.
Games - the phone offers four games memory, snake, logic and rotation. You can also have a two player game using IR connection. I was pretty mad to find out that the phone did not have snake 2 and space impact! ( my favorite games!)
Services - Nokia smart messaging enables the use of a variety of network services offered by operators or service providers. Some services may be available through the internet and although the phone does not support full world wide web browsing you may be able to access certain internet services directly from your phone such as news weather reports, traffic reports etc.
The phone also allows you to download logos and ringtones for your phone. It does have its own ringtones though.
Overall i think the phone is excellent, but i do think it is rather expensive at the moment. Therefore i would suggest that you wait until the price is reduced.
This isnt about downloading a few short programs and videos. This is the mobile broadcast TV youve been waiting for, brought to you by the u620 and V ...More at eBay
