Lisa_J's Full Review: Jamie Jones - Salonovations' Braids & Updo's Made ...
An incredible attribute offered via long hair is the multiplicity of styling options available. During Cosmetology schooling I learned some basic braiding but when my girls decided to grow their hair out I yearned for more possibilities. That was when I came across Salon Ovations' Braids & Updos Made Easy .
Author Jamie Rines Jones has been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1977. As a platform artist she has traveled with Pivot Point International, teaching long hair design techniques. She also operates Helping Hand Productions (a company designed to assist others toward success when working with long hair). The videotapes and books she offers are meant to ease frustration often associated with long hair styling. The styles that she presents in this book are meant to be completed in less than 20 minutes.
***In the hairstyle business there are hair shows that stylists attend. Multiple classes are offered and massive presentations. New products are released and other products promoted. These shows are generally a lot of fun and full of synergy. The stylists presenting the sessions are often referred to as platform artists. Although I don't currently work in the Cosmetology field I maintain my license and occasionally attend these. Dynamical hairstyles are presented including braiding and updos.***
Although a Cosmetologist created this book for use by hairstylists, it can be successfully used by all. Please understand the styles presented in this publication are meant for hair that is medium length (shoulder) and longer. The 20+ hairstyles shown offer detailed instructions, black and white drawings, and photographs. You are shown proper finger and hand position for each style presented. Her attentiveness toward healthy hair allows us to be instructed with little or no teasing of the hair prior to or during the braid/updo process.
The multiple styles presented within the 128 pages can be adapted into other hair designs. Prior to acquiring this book we had experimented with five other braid books. I can honestly say this publication is the most helpful. The instructions provided are easy to follow and the end result is a gorgeous braid/updo. We appreciate the multiple offerings in this styling book and have used them for hairstyles sported during dance routines. In fact I sometimes snicker with regard to the multiple twisting, braiding, and pinning up that occurs in the dressing rooms provided for the dancers. Mom’s with bobby pins and children responding with an occasional squeal make for a busy gathering.
