Best looking 15" laptop screen I've seen, to date.

Pros: Exceptional screen (15"), pretty fast processor, and a really big hard drive
Cons: A Little heavy, but light on the software.
The Bottom Line: I've owned several Sony's in a row, both laptops and desktops. However, this Toshiba made me switch, and I'm real glad I did.

I know I'm prone to review products I like, but I can't say enough good things about this one. I got mine last December, it had just gone on sale from $2995 to $2495. I had been looking right in the $3000 range but was unhappy with what I had found so far.
I fell in love with the Toshiba when the salesperson demoed it with "Toy Story 2" DVD. I had never seen a screen that clear and vibrant before. I immediately walked it out the store. A week later I saw it on sale for $2095 so rushed back to get my refund + 10% from Circuit City. No hassle, they crediting my charge card with the difference and a smile.
I was disappointed that it didn't come with more software. The Lotus Suite was pretty lame, but since I had a lot of software already, this didn't bother me too much. I like the Millennium Edition okay, but I did expect more new features. Microsoft windows is another issue altogether, but I'll pass up any cheap shots for now and stick with this review.
The 20 gig hard drive is a real blessing, as I do a lot of graphics, databases, etc. I need all of that space. The 128 mb of ram is also a must and coupled with the 700 Mhz P-III processor, it's all the speed I need. Compared with my Sony 550 Mhz P-III desktop, this laptop seems a whole lot faster, even though the desktop has 256 mb ram. Maybe it's the operating system, the desktop has Win-98 and the laptop has ME!. I can't account for the performance increase. The clip/clock speed difference just isn't enough to matter, the higher ram in the Sony should offset that difference for my database applications as well as for my graphic intensive applications.
But the picture, that's the distinguishing feature of this laptop. It's has bright, vibrant colors, very readable text and you can view the screen from a much wider angle than previous models, including the 13.1" Sony laptop I recent gave our daughter.
I'm not especially fond of the Toshiba's color combination (gray and silver), but that's a minor issue I can easily live with. All-in-all I like this laptop a lot and would highly recommend it for serious business use as well as the occasional WebSite browse-through.
