| MississippiMom's Full Review: Rubbermaid Big Max Shed |
Rubbermaid Big Max Storage Shed was an excellent choice for my gardening needs. I needed a Storage Shed that could store all my Gardening tools and accessories, most of all, could hold up in all sorts of weather. As you know I live in Buffalo New York, the weather here is brutal in the winter months. In the fall I prepare my yard to get ready for that first snowfall, After the last mowing I store away all my gardening tools that I no longer need for the winter months and bring out the snow shovels. I can depend on my Big Max Storage Shed to keep everything I have stored from mildew and rusting away from the cold rainy fall days we have here and especially to protect them from the winter months.
Why choose Rubbermaid you ask? Why not consider a Metal or Wood Shed.... After researching my options and looking at my budget I decided to go with the Big Max. I have had this shed now for two seasons.
Let me tell you how I feel
..
I found the Big MaxShed to hold up exceptionally well with loads of storage space and the cost of this spacious shed was within my budget.
I had owned a Metal shed for about 5 years prior to this and found that it did not meet my expectations.,I had things get damp and Mildew on me and during those nasty storms we had it didnt hold up. It leaked it bent it looked beat up.
Many of the Wood Sheds look nice in appearance but were way over my budget and I wanted something that was maintenance free. Thats what Big Max has been so far Maintenance Free.
If you are Interested in Purchasing this Shed, Home Depot carries it.
During the Spring I am at Home Depots Garden Center more than any other nursery in the area. Its one of my favorite places to shop for all my gardening needs. Besides the wide variety of healthy plants I buy from there, I find most of my soils and tools at reasonable prices.
Seeing that I have purchased this 2 years ago my memory fails me a little so I looked up online to see what they sell for.
I found at www.homedepot.com that it sells for $ 598.00 and in my opinion its well worth its weight in gold as far as I am concerned. I dont remember paying that much for this shed, but it was close to it.
I was extremely thankful for my Son and Son-in-law. Together they got the Shed Home for me.
First let me say, It comes unassembled with easy to Read Instructions. That was my Job
Although I didnt assemble it, I supervised as my Son and my Son-in-law put it together, from the ease of following the directions they had it together in no time at all. What I mean by in no time at all, is it was completely assembled within a couple of hours. They ran into a few problems as I remember, but nothing that wasnt solved easily once they went over the instructions themselves.
Being that it was some time ago, all I remember at the time of this writing is, they used a rubber mallet to hammer pieces together to be sure that the components were connected securely and in place. A Philips Screwdriver to secure the roof, they also needed a step ladder to place the roof on and my son-in-law added extra support to the roof by adding a beam to the top of it to help keep the roof from caving in our harsh winter months. He also hung a light fixture, in case I needed to search for something after it got dark. God Bless him.
I didnt keep the instruction once it was set up and in use, therefore I can not go into detail as to how to assemble. All I can vouch for is it wasnt a real hard task from start to finish. I also remember the instructions also recommended using liquid soap to help coat the parts that snapped together. It made it easier to assemble the pieces.
What are the dimensions of this shed?
Big Max is 7' Wide x 7' Deep x 7' 9" High
What are my views on this shed?
Well its a Good Buy! It has held up well, provides loads of storage, has not rusted, fallen down, blown over or even gotten wet on the inside from all the weather Buffalo is hit with.
The Big max provides something like 270 cubic Feet of Storage, (and honestly I cant visualize cubic feet). From the Roof to the Floor it is entirely constructed of a heavy duty plastic resin and comes with its own Hardware. I had also purchased the accessory kit online through Home depot for an additional $25.00 last Summer. It included brackets for the shelves and a tool rack. Its not necessary to purchase the kit, you can always add your own shelving if you prefer. I just preferred to go with the kit. The shelves fit securely into the groves and was easy for Me to assemble afterwards by myself.
Its fairly attractive as far as storage sheds go the sides are beige, the roof is a Dark Green the doors open outward and gives you ample room to store all of your tools.
I had added Flower Beds with matching color borders surrounding the sides which gives my Shed a much more attractive look.
If you are an Organized person this shed will give you quite a bit of space from the floor to the ceiling. Then there is Room for my riding lawn mower. I have no problem whatsoever getting the mower in or out of this shed. The door opening is 60 inches wide and 70 inches high.
The floor is made of a heavy duty plastic resin also and is of dark Gray color. With all the weight it has not shown any signs of sagging. I remember when they put the floor together that was one of my main concerns because I remember it coming in four pieces and wondered if it would buckle from the cold.
Would I recommend this Shed to other consumers? Yes I would, for the price, for the durability of being weather resistant and for the amount of storage it provides. Yes, its a good BUY.
To give you an example of what I can store in the Big Max
I have a riding mower, two ladders standing against the wall, Bins for smaller lawn ornaments and there is room for my Stand-Up Garden Statutes, 4 of my resin chairs (stacked) that I store away for the winter, all my larger gardening tools such as the Garden Claw, Rake and Push Broom on the tool rack that was included in the accessory kit.
I have room for Storage Bins that I label and stack. On the shelves, I have extra pots, plant food, pesticides, my basket of hand tools. I also have room for the Grandchildrens outdoor riding toys. Not to mention all the other junk I have accumulated over they years that has nothing to do with gardening. If you are an Organized Person I find it will hold loads of things. With the width of the doors its easy to access but most of all, it keeps my things dry and out of the weather, thats the bottom line here.
My Recommendation is 5 Stars by far.
Its ideal for those of you who need extra storage or have no outdoor storage at all. It can fit anywhere in the yard, as long as the ground is level of course. Depending on the height of your Carport, you can set it up there too to store all your outdoor accessories.
I have a friend who uses her Big Max for all her swimming pool equipment and outdoor furniture
lol! Sort of like a pool house, where the kids can go in and change, hang their towels and she even set a portable potty in there for when they have a pool party she doesnt have all these wet feet tracking through the house. She keeps the one door open and the other closed for privacy. She loves her Big Max and purchased hers after she seen mine and seen the room it had on the inside that she decided it would be ideal for all her pool accessories. Needless to say it works for her. She loves the fact she can lock it up so when the pool is closed the kids dont have access. She also uses it for storage in the winter and its a fact she is another Satisfied Customer.
I hope this review was Helpful and informative enough to help you in making a decision to go with Rubbermaid Big Max for your Outdoor Storage needs.
Thanks for reading!
