| Nixita's Full Review: Ru San's |
Ahh...Ru San's. My first sushi experience in Atlanta, and still my old standby. Went there last night, as a matter of fact; after some dithering with Significant Other about what we wanted and where to go, we decided to hit Ansley and eat some sushi.
Ru San's is not fancy, nor is it "gourmet." They will not cook any food at your table or do Trained-Chef-Tricks, like flipping the prawns into their hat with a spatula.
Thank goodness.
What they do, instead, is prepare consistently fresh, high-quality sushi, sashimi, tempura, and noodle dishes at extremely reasonable prices. Take last night, example: I had an order of Negi Hamachi Maki, an order of California Roll, and an order of Japanese Bagel. S.O., shying away from the fish, decided on pesto noodles with chicken. The bill came to $17, with (non-alcoholic) drinks. How can you go wrong?
The servers at Ru San's are knowledgeable about sushi and never condescending; if you flounder over a pronunciation, they'll laugh with you and offer the correct pronunciation - gently. They're also young, hip, attractive - the kind of people you could imagine going out to dinner with... if only they weren't working. The service is always quick and attentive; in Ru San's, you never have to crane your neck, looking for the Missing Waitron.
Atmosphere and food are both consistent; I've never been in there and found the place depressingly deserted, with some poor shmuck vacuuming under the tables, as seems to happen so often when I go to Chinese restaurants. Lively dance and house music adds to the casual, fun, energetic atmosphere. It's not really a place to linger, but you get the sense that most people in there are heading out to someplace else afterwards, anyway.
