Well, let's face it! When I was about twelve years old, I had to take over cooking for my family while my mother was ill for a few weeks. So, what did I use when I was learning how to cook? Revereware Copper Clad Cookware!
Why Revereware Copper Clad Cookware Was Purchased Instead of Other Brands
Durability
My mother has owned Revereware Copper Clad Cookware since I can remember. My first memories of her cooking are of her making Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in a 3-quart Revereware Copper Clad saucepan. Even with constant use, the pots that we had in our family were like new even after use for several decades. Even today, my father (my mom's deceased) uses several of the saucepans still while cooking. To me this tells it all-- Revereware literally lasts forever!
Good Looks
Good looks are a great plus also for Revereware Copper Clad Cookware. My mother had limited storage space when we were younger so she used to leave some of her pots out on the cook top. Each of these pots had this marvelous gleem to it because the pots are made of stainless steel with a really beautiful copper bottom. They are very great "show" pots as well as useful for daily use.
Even Heating
One of the things that I have always enjoyed about using Revereware Copper Clad Cookware was that when I use these saucepans and dutch ovens, that the heat was always evenly distributed over the entire bottom of the pot. I didn't have "hot spots" where part of my food would tend to stick or heat more than in other places. Even though Revereware Copper Clad Cookware is not a non-stick product, I do not recall many times where my mother had a problem with the food burning the bottom of the pots.
Of Course, Kids Will Be Kids, Right?
Probably one of the most angriest times I have seen my mom want to blow a fuse was when one of my younger brothers got really "smart" and tried to pop popcorn in one of my mother's Revereware saucepans. He had the heat on too high and didn't know what he was doing and scortched the bottom of the pot. I thought my mom was going to hang him on the clotheline, she was so angry! Through scrubbing, she was able to get the burned kernels off, but this affected the overall usability of her 2-quart saucepan in the future.
Problems With Revereware Copper Clad Cookware
Handles and Knobs
As I had with my T-Fal cookware set, my parents had a problem with knobs and especially the handles of the Revereware Copper Clad Cookware break after time. My dad, being Mr. Fix-It at the time, rigged up some of the handles for continued use, but this continued to be rather fruitless in the end as these home rigged handles didn't last either. Because of this, many of these pots went before their "time".
Easy to Catch Fire?
In two instances as my mother was using her large skillet to fry foods, we had fires in our kitchen. Whether or not that was the fault of the skillet is anyone's guess really. However, when we used other skillets in our home, these fires never did happen. So, we often wondered if our Revereware skillet had been a primary cause of this situation.
Gas Cooking?
Another situation that we had with our Revereware occured when we were living in a rental home for a few months while our new home was being built in 1977. In this home we had a gas stove and it seemed that the gas tarnished or burned the bottom of these pots rather easily. During that time, my father purchased a few Club Aluminum pieces and we kept the Reverware packed away until our final move.
Recommendation
Currently my father still has two of the original Revereware Copper pots in his home still using them after all of these years -- the 1 quart saucepan and the 9 inch fry pan. While the rest of these pots eventually wore out through the years, I can say though from my own use of these pots during the time I was living with my parents that they are highly durable and long lasting. I've lost count of how many meals were made with this set of cookware, but it has to be in the thousands including huge feasts for our extended family at Thanksgiving.
It seems to me that even throughout the years, with the exception of the knobs and handles situation that Revereware Copper Clad Cookware continues to set a standard lasting literally forever that I have not seen with many other brands of cookware except for Club Aluminum and Magnalite. When I am home with my father now, I still use these pots on a regular basis and still have effective results.
Therefore, I highly recommend the purchase of Revereware Copper Clad Cookware for your family's kitchen needs. This cookware really and truly will last forever.
