| pamelita3099's Full Review: Pyrex Rectangular Baking Dish (3-Qt.) |
One of the most used baking dishes in our household is the Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish. It is often used for casseroles, fruit cobblers and small roast with all the trimmings. Although it is considered a baking dish we often use it for cold deserts and layered salads as well. It is easy to clean, easy to store and attractive on the table in simplistic sense. This product is manufactured in the United States of America. I enjoy supporting USA manufacturing companies and Pyrex is one of them. I sincerely hope they will stick with the USA. And if they do so, I will certainly stick with Pyrex as well.
However, I must say I do purchase happily purchase products from other countries.
I just feel supporting my homeland’s manufacturers is a good thing.
About the Baking Dish
The Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish has been in family kitchens for decades. The material the baking dishes are made of was one called “fire glass”. The glass material was used may years ago in railroad signal lanterns because of it ability to withstand high temperatures. Using this material in baking materials was an excellent idea. The glass baking products produced by Pyrex were popular in the early 1920’s and are extremely popular today. With over eighty years in production Pyrex offers the buying community a variety of baking dishes in many sizes and shapes. The Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish is one of many in our household. We choose to use Pyrex bakeware simply because it is high quality, attractive and affordable.
The Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish is rectangular and holds roughly three quarts of food. The dishes dimensions are 9 x 13 x 2 inches and the glass material is clear. I love the clear glass. The clear “fire glass” gives the baking dish the versatility to match any décor in any kitchen. The baking dish has extensions at each side. These extensions are squared off and offer the user grips to make holding and moving the baking dish simpler and safer. However, I must say that the handles are not heat resistant. If you are cooking with the Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish you must use potholders or the equivalent to keep your hands and fingers from burning.
If you plan to use the baking dish on a table setting do this with caution. If the baking dish is hot you will need to place it on a trivet or medium wood cutting board to keep it from damaging the table. You will also need these heat resistant tools to keep the baking dish from damaging counter tops made of non- heat resistant materials.
Clean- Up
I am happy to say that the Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish is dishwasher safe. I clean mine using the heaviest cycle if it has stuck on food. I normally spray the pan with a light sheen of cooking spray before I bake, this keeps stuck on food to a minimum. Before running through the dishwasher I scrape of the stuck on food and rinse. Then I simply place the baking dish in the dishwasher and run the cycle. Of course you can wash this product by hand using warm sudsy water, a good rinsing and either towel dry or air dry.
Overall
I honestly feel every newly formed household should have a Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish. It is an excellent size for many baking purposes and is dishwasher safe. I would recommend this product to absolutely anyone who cooks. It would make an excellent house- warming gift along with a couple of personal baking recipe cards and the ingredients to complete one meal. We use our Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish at least once a week and will continue to do so in the future. My family currently owns and uses over 15 pieces of Pyrex glass cooking tools. Each one has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen and we have no regrets. Pyrex is simply wonderful.
Warranty
The Pyrex 3- Quart Baking Dish comes with a 2 year warranty. This warranty covers manufactured defects. I have owned my baking dish for over 10 years and it still looks wonderful.
Cost
You can purchase this dish through COOKING.COM for around nine dollars. Or if you are just starting to stock your kitchen you may want to look into a set of Pyrex. Check out other listings of Pyrex products on Epinions and Cooking. Com. The baking sets are economical and will quickly stock your kitchen with excellent glass baking tools for all of you baking needs.
Caution
I must say that this product is glass. If you drop it on the ground it can break. Broken glass is dangerous so handle with care if this occurs. Another tip: Do not subject this product to extreme temperature changes. This could also cause the glass to break. Read the instructions on the package carefully before use and you should be safe from any uneccessary dangers.
