| shantel575's Full Review: Prescriptives 100% Oil Free Makeup |
When putting on makeup, foundation is a very important step! Even if you have flawless skin, your foundation serves as a base for your other products. I dont have flawless skin by any stretch of the imagination, so I need to prepare my canvas before I add color. Ive tried SO many foundations, from drugstore brands (Almay, Revlon, etc.) all the way to the department stores (Origins, Clinique, Estee Lauder), but I have to tell you
thanks to some of my Beauty friends, Ive found the best foundation out there!
During a shopping trip about a year ago, Chrisceb and KMINER peaked my curiosity regarding Prescriptives cosmetics. They were both using makeup from Prescriptives (from now on referred to as Px) and both had only great things to say. At the time I was using an Estee Lauder foundation that I look back on and CRINGE
it was ORANGE! UGH! So when we hit the mall the next day, I followed Chrisceb right over to the Px counter and let them have their way with me. Thank goodness for that day! It changed my cosmetics life!
About Prescriptives
This company is like no other when it comes to foundations. You dont just pick a foundation and then find a close color match and do what you can. Oh no. They color match your skin! They are the ONLY company that does this folks. I dont know about you, but Ive tried foundations from so many other companies, and I simply have to find the one in their line that is my best option, even if it didnt really match. You know what Im talking about right? And then you have a different color face than your neck, and you always have to make sure you blend the heck out of the makeup at your jaw line. Not fun, and not pretty.
At Px, they have 4 color groups: Red, Blue/Red, Yellow/Orange and Red/Orange. First they figure out which color group you belong to by matching your skin tone with their testers. Once they do that, THEN they help decide which color foundation is best for you. There are foundations in EVERY color group. AND, get this, if by chance there is not a color that matches your skin perfectly (I have a feeling this is a rarity, but anyway) they will CUSTOM BLEND one for you! How awesome is THAT? Luckily, we found a match for my skin right away. I am a Blue/Red and I use the Fresh Rose in Winter and Fresh Porcelain in Summer (both are in the Blue/Red family, but one is a tad darker for when I get out in the sun a bit).
HOLY cow at the difference! No more blending, no more lines, no more orange face, no more freaky colors! You cant EVEN tell I have it on! Its a perfect match! You better believe I smacked down the cash for THIS one right then and there. I was forever changed.
Product Information
The particular foundation formula I selected, due to my oily skin, is Px 100% Oil Free Foundation. It comes in a round, 1 ounce glass bottle. It has a matte finish, which is what I must have when I purchase foundation. I selected the color Fresh Rose, which is in the Blue/Red color group. It does have a slight scent, but its very unnoticeable. However, there is no fragrance added to the product, so the scent is just natural. Its a liquid makeup that is creamy in texture, and lightweight. It does give ample coverage for me. Its not thick and cakey, but it covers what I want it to cover. Px says it gives Medium to Full coverage. It also contains SPF 15 to protect your skin from sun damage.
Ingredients (taken straight from the box, this list is specifically included for those with skin sensitivities and allergies): Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Octyl Salicyate Water, octyl methoxycinnamate, cyclomethicone, methyl gluceth-10, octyl salicylate, sea searate, kaolin, tea-isostearate, steareth-21,glyceryl stearate, lecithin, propylene glycol stearate, polysorbate 20, calcium silicate, talc, silica, bisabolol, magnesium aluminum silicate, isosteric acid, propylene, glycol laurate, xanthan gum, cellulose gum, allantoin, sorbitan laurate, ylang ylang, alumina, trisodium edta, phenoxyethanolk, ethylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, ultramarines, mica, bismuth oxychloride
Application Methods
If you get a chance to go to a Px counter, DEFINITELY ask for the brush, finger, sponge demo. You wont believe it! There are 3 methods of applying your foundation. The most popular is with your fingers. You simply dab the makeup on your face and blend with your fingers. This is fine, but did you know that every time you put your finger BACK on the bottle to get more makeup you are contaminating the remaining foundation? Yep, you are. Also, when using your fingers, you are not getting an even blend of the makeup, and you may possibly be using more than you need.
The second method of applying your foundation is the famous sponge method. Ive done this for years. First of all, how sanitary can this be? If you do this, please wash your sponges with antibacterial soap often. If you arent doing this, you are probably causing blemishes because of re-using sponges over and over. The bacteria sits in the sponge and then you put it back on your face, ugh. Also, and very important, you are WASTING probably HALF of your makeup. Now, if you are using makeup that costs $1 or $2, you may not care, but Px foundation is rather pricey, so I want to use EVERY drop if I can. The sponge SOAKS the foundation right up, and you are probably using half or more of what you put on that sponge! I do NOT want to waste that much product! And even if you squeeze, press and pat that sponge on your skin, the makeup is absolutely NOT coming back out. Been there, tried it, it aint gonna happen. Trust me, ask for this demo and youll see what I mean.
Now, this method isnt very popular right now (a lot of people dont even know about it) but I am SO glad I know about it and use it. Its the brush method of application. Yes, I use a brush to apply my foundation. Px makes what is called a foundation brush and let me tell you, its AWESOME! The brush soaks up ZERO amount of your makeup, so you dont waste even a DROP. I love that! I get to use EVERY bit of my makeup without wasting any of it. If I happen to get too much on my brush, I simply dab it on another part of my face and use it there. You can also pat the brush on the places youve already applied makeup to get more of a full coverage because, unlike the sponge, the brush doesnt keep the makeup once its in there. You can use whatever is on your brush. Also, its sanitary. I simply pour a drop onto my brush and apply. The brush doesnt touch the bottle. Then I wash my brush with a tiny dab of antibacterial soap and let it dry for my next use. It stays clean, and so does the makeup bottle. Lastly, but not least, the brush application gives the most even and smoothest application of the foundation. Its simply amazing. Just ask for the demo and youll see for yourself.
You can use any of these 3 methods, but I cannot recommend the foundation brush enough!!!! The brush lasts a lifetime if you take care of it, and youll never waste another drop of makeup. Those sponges are evil I tell you!
My Personal Experience
I just love this foundation so much that I cant rave enough about it! Ive tried SO many others and wow, now I have the best! Just to give you a few examples, Ive used Clinique SuperFit, Clinique Super Balanced, Clinique Matte Makeup, Estee Lauder Double Matte Foundation, Mary Kay Oil Free Makeup, Revlon Oil Free Makeup, Loreal Mattique Foundation, Origins Nude & Improved, Mary Kay Cream to Powder Foundation, etc. The list goes on, I cant even tell you! But now Ill never go back. Ive found the best and Ill stick with it!
This makeup is simple and easy to apply, especially with my new friend, the foundation brush. It is easy to blend and lasts all day. It gives me the coverage I want and keeps my shine under control. Best of all, it matches my skin perfectly! This makeup is flawless. When I first saw Chrisceb with hers on, I was in awe. It looked SO natural, like she didnt EVEN have makeup on, but it was so flawless and perfect! Now my skin is that way. I recently went back to work and I deal with another cosmetics company, so I deal with a lot of ladies and cosmetics. Well, I get comments on my skin all the time. What they dont know is, I do NOT have great skin, I just have great makeup!
I also use Px Concealer (Camo Cream) and their Liquid Powder (Magic Powder). Reviews of those to come soon.
Who Is This Product For?
If you wear foundation, or considered wearing it but are afraid of it, Im telling you right now to get to a Px counter! They are the best in the foundation industry, and you will be hooked if you even dare to try it. If you are tired of using thick, caked on makeup to hide imperfections, try Px. If you are tired of makeup that doesnt match your skin coloring, try Px. If you simply want the best foundation out there, get to Px! If you want to wear some foundation, but you want to look as natural as possible, try Px. Need I say more? This stuff is for EVERYONE.
Even though I use the 100% Oil Free formula, there are SO many other formulas! There is a formula for each individual need. They have foundations that go on sheer, they have foundations for dry skin, for aging skin, etc. They have it all.
I dare you to go to the Px counter upon your next trip to the mall. Oh, and they are SO generous with samples! You can simply ask for a color matching and figure out which foundation formula works for your needs, and they will gladly give you a sample to try. Why are they so generous? Because they KNOW that you WILL be back to purchase a bottle after trying it a few times! How can they be so confident in their products? Because they are AWESOME and they are the best, thats why! Ive taken several friends to their counter, had them color matched and gotten them samples to take home and try. Every single one has ended up back at the Px counter to purchase the makeup, and they are now believers like I am.
DO NOT let the prices scare you. Their stuff lasts a really long time, especially since Im not wasting any of it! My first bottle of the 100% Oil Free foundation lasted me 6-7 months! This stuff is SO worth it anyway.
Purchasing Information
Okay, now that you are convinced (you are convinced right?), here is how to get your own Px products. You can find Px counters in department stores (much like Origins, Estee Lauder, Clinique). Id recommend going to their website and doing a store locator search if you are not sure whether you have a Px counter in your area or not. Once you locate a counter, you can then go in and get color matched.
Check their website for more information at www.prescriptives.com or www.gloss.com
You can also call their toll free number for more information at 1-888-550-4567.
Prescriptives does NOT test on animals!
Thanks so much for reading! ;-)
