This Plate Joiner is truly an excellent piece of workmanship from Porter Cable. Fit & finish, power, functionality - it is a winner in every category. I love this tool and am always looking for an opportunity to put it to use. It is a replacement for the Porter Cable model #555 that I also enjoyed working with. But that unit lacked dust collection capabilities, and I began to hunger for something with a little more power. The PC model #557 is a very strong machine which has cut easily into any type of wood that I have presented it to, and I have no doubt that this great tool will be partnered with me well into my retirement years.
Considering a Plate Joiner? Yes, you can do cheaper than the PC. But the 557 is the way to go - the machine of choice - if you are serious about your woodworking.
