| Staceys1's Full Review: Polly Pocket Totally Trendy Pets Superset |
My eight year old daughter has more than her fair share of Barbie, Kelley, Bratz and Polly Pocket dolls, but it seems that every birthday and holiday bring more into our home. Even so, when I saw this Polly Pocket Totally Trendy Pets Superset I immediately knew that she would love it since she did not have many sets that included Polly Pocket animals.
Polly Pocket is a 3.5" tall doll, and she does have some similar-sized friends. This set contains approximately sixty pieces, with five dolls, nine animals and a safari car. The complete list of items included are:
Polly Pocket
Lea
Rick
Lila
Shani
one horse
one monkey
two all-plastic cats (one possibly a baby tiger?)
three cats with hair
two dogs with hair
one purple safari print vehicle
outfits for the dolls
outfits for the animals
footwear for the dolls
hair clips
accessories such as sunglasses and purses
brushes and combs
pretend scissors and hair styling products
blue privacy screen
pink and lime green bench
pink and lime green chair
pink and purple sink with a mirror above it and shelves underneath
pink and purple armoire
All five of the dolls have hair that can be brushed and the brush has a cut out in the handle, allowing you to place it in a doll's hand. These dolls are so small, that in order for the brush to be usable by a child, the brush is huge in comparison to their stature. The brush is the length of the doll's arm and twice as wide.
According to the box, the horse is a "Groovy Glam Pony" and is beige, with pink hooves and a pink mane and tail made of brushable hair. She has a pink saddle and a yellow coat with pink and blue trim. She is Lila's horse, so that Lila is the only doll in this set that has jointed knees and hips so that she can easily ride. The remaining four dolls, and most of the Polly Pocket dolls made, have straight pieces of plastic for the legs so that when they sit, their legs must stick straight out in front of them. To really make a matched set, Lila's dark hair has a streak of pink in it to match the horse's hair, and she comes with a yellow, pink and blue top to match the horse's outfit.
The monkey and two of the cats are made completely of plastic, but the remaining three cats and two dogs each have a tuft of hair on their foreheads to brush or add a barrette to. In addition to fixing their hair, these animals also come with removable coats, some of which match outfits for the dolls.
When it is time for a trip, two dolls can sit in the front of the purple and white safari-print jeep, which has seatbelts and cupholders. Some of the smaller animals (all but the horse) can hitch a ride in the back. This is a basic car that has no batteries so therefore it makes no noise and must be pushed by your child to make it go. It does have a clear pink plastic sunroof, which tends to fall off so often that my daughter just leaves it off while playing with it.
One of the cats without hair is orange with black stripes and is shown on the box with the safari car and monkey, so it might actually be intended to be a baby tiger rather than a cat. The dogs and other cats are all standing on all four paws, while this animal is in a sitting position.
We believe that the bench, chair, sink and armoire are intended to be used as part of a pet salon, based on the pictures of cats and dogs next to the mirror which is located above the sink, as well as the description on the box. There is space to store the hair accessories in the armoire and under the sink, and the doors snap closed so that these small items will stay inside when not in use. The blue room divider makes a good wall so that the jeep can be parked on one side while the animals get their beauty treatments on the other side.
According to the box, this is a "superset" and contains items that are sold separately in four different sets: Paw Spa, Paw Pairs, Wild Ride Safari Car and Groovy Glam Pony. Since each of the included sets all have at least one animal in them, my daughter has lumped all four sets together and calls it simply the Pet Set. All of the dolls are the same size, so that clothes and accessories are interchangeable, and the only difficulty is getting the dolls with non-bending knees to ride the horse.
Since this set has Polly Pocket animals which my daughter had not seen before, she was extremely excited when she received this set. I paid $22.99 at Costco for this Polly Pocket Totally Trendy Pets Superset which I found to be a great deal since it includes a nice number of dolls and animals, plus a vehicle.
