Would you believe me if I told you that one inexpensive doll has lasted through two children and still looks new? AND that it was played with often? Honestly, take two little girls, one doll, no crying, no burping, no wetting, no pooping, no walking, no crawling, no singing, no accessories, no moving parts, no lights, no batteries and no second mortgage?
No, I haven't been doing excessive research for reviewing wines for Epinions. I'm talking about an adorable doll from Playskool called My Very Soft Baby.
You mean kids will actually play with a toy that doesn't require adult assembly, a higher credit limit and nerves of steel?
Yes, it is true. The same baby who first drooled on this precious doll now has lost two teeth and has finished reading all four Harry Potter books. The second owner of the very same doll is just months away from starting preschool. Not that I'm in a family way, nor do I plan to be anytime soon, but I anticipate at least one or two more kids will love the very same Very Soft Baby before it retires to the toybox of forgotten playthings....
I'm not sure what it is about My Very Soft Baby that makes it such a great doll, but I'm certainly not complaining. Quite the contrary!
Hey! It squeaks!
Okay, so the doll isn't completely silent. When you squeeze her tummy, she quietly squeaks. Babies seem to love squeaky toys and most seasoned parents will agree that a little squeak beats deafening, electronic sounds or annoying repetitive phrases. Of course, there's more to love about My Very Soft Baby, and since this is Epinions, it is my duty to list them all in bold print:
Inexpensive... We've had ours so long that I can't recall the purchase price. I believe it was under $10.00.
No batteries... Need I say more?
Lightweight... Your baby can hold "their own" baby.
So soft... From her pillow soft body to her satiny pink outfit, this doll is completely huggable.
Easy to clean... That's right your child can chew on it, drool, spit-up and even toss it in the sandbox. Yes, you can toss this toy in the machine and it comes out looking new. The manufacturer suggests placing the doll in a pillow case, but we've tossed her in with clothes both in and out of a mesh lingerie bag as well and have had no problems whatsoever.
Sweet and petite... At less than a foot long, the doll is easy for a baby to hold. Small enough to fit in even the tiniest diaper bag, you can take her along wherever you go. Not so small that it gets lost in a big diaper bag.
What a face... It is widely known that babies love to look at faces. Large blue eyes and delicate features will hold a baby's interest very nicely. In addition to being simply adorable, should the doll get a zwieback kiss on the cheek, you can wipe her face with a damp cloth and you're good to go. The face is so soft that if your little angel clocks someone else's angel in the head, there will be no lumps or boo-boos.
Nothing to lose... No pacifier, no removable pieces, no nonsense. No plastic accessories to step on, no need to wake the baby as you hop on one foot shrieking in pain. The bonnet is even attached and a baby curl is simply "painted" in the middle of her forehead. The one piece design and lack of small parts makes this doll truly suitable for the youngest baby.
Durable... I purchased this doll before the Backstreet Boys hit puberty. It has made it through three moves and outings galore. It has outlasted virtually every doll we've ever owned. It's been used as a pillow, a comfort object and even a weapon. Still a very soft baby.
Finally, less is more for once!
It is rare to find a doll that has all the qualities of My Very Soft Baby while being a hit with both parents and children. Perfect as a first doll, My Very Soft Baby is a practical, lovable, durable and adorable. Unlike some plush toys, machine washing won't destroy it or alter the way it looks. The smooth exterior may be a better choice for allergic children as not only can you wash it frequently, there is no "fur" to collect dust mites and other allergens.
Made by Playskool, a trusted name, My Very Soft Baby is easy to find at many discount stores, online shops and major toy chains. Sometimes less really is more when it comes to quality toys. Babies can snuggle the doll for comfort while toddlers and even older kids can use their imagination pretending and playing "mommy (or daddy) and baby."
Both of my babies fell in love with My Very Soft Baby and I bet yours will too!.
