Pros: extra tray and harness system
Cons: too many places for food to get into. Definitely stay away from the white leatherette!
The Bottom Line: Don't buy it. The leatherette easily wears and stains. The chair has too many nooks for food and liquids to get into and harvest bacteria.

| maglib's Full Review: Peg Perego 2002 Prima Pappa High Chair |
I got this high chair as a gift and at first thought "what a great high chair".
I loved how it had an extra removable tray and a cup holder and how the seat moved to different heights and was reclinable. The high chair has a 5 point harness system and a leg divider for the safety of your little ones. My high chair had a white leatherette material that made it sleek and modern looking. The body of this high chair is white plastic, and the legs are blue metal, there is additional stylish blue plastic around the chair. It was easy to put together within 5 minutes. The chair easily folds up but, is still too bulky when folded so I do not use this feature. The chair has adjustable height levels which again I don't use this feature but, it could be a good feature for someone else.
Size wise, this high chair is wider than most and is great for children who can truly hold their heads up (it was too big when my son first started eating at 3 months even with the chair fully reclined. The size was ok for him by 5 months old and is great after 1 year old and appears that it will last till he is mature enough to sit at the "big" table). The harness system and the removable tray are the best features of this high chair. The harness system keeps your child safely strapped in just like in their car seats. My 19 month old can not figure out how to open it but, is able to get his arms through the harnesses but, he has never officially gotten out of it. The extra tray makes it easy to deliver his food quickly and take the mess away just as easily.
Once my son actually started to use this high chair did I realize how mistaken I was in my initial positive evaluation.
The issues with this chair are due to the many openings where food can easily harvest itself and promote harmful bacterial growths. The plastic around the chair holds food in between the reclining areas, the under tray has a small front hole which I constantly clean with a toothpick. Where the plastic parts join there are additional gaps which get food stuck inside. The cushion has gaps all around the inside seat and where the straps go through where food and liquids easily harvest themselves under the seat cushion. Additionally, the white leatherette quickly got stained and I could not remove all the blemishes (especially squash and carrots). I had to constantly clean the high chair and it quickly had an odor to the leatherette. It is hard to get under the seat cushion to clean (a number of snaps which as they are plastic based may wear over time and it is an inconvenience to have to constantly take the cushion off, let it air dry and put it back on). I have a cleaning fetish and absolutely hated the white leatherette. If you want this high chair against my opinion, at least choose a different fabric.
Additionally, within only 6 months (use time from son being 4 months to 10 months old) the leatherette material became worn in numerous areas (under his legs and behind his head even). My son does not spend a lot of time in his high chair so there was not much of an excuse and I did not use harsh chemicals on it. I contacted Peg Perego and they told me this was normal wear (my first high chair after 2 kids never looked this bad and was only replaced as it was outdated). Peg Perego customer service did not cover it under their normal 1 year warranty as I did not have a receipt (although the baby age could verify that it was less than a year old plus I had filled out the warranty card which did not seem to matter) if you don't have a receipt, they use the manufactured date which was prior to my son even being born. After further complaints, they offered me another cushion at a 50% discount (it still cost me an additional $44 for the seat). I got a different design and was happier with it. It still gets dirty too easily under the cushion and between the openings and it takes a lot of effort to keep it clean and I still can smell the food odor (not in the cushion though, just under it). The odor is definitely not as bad.
There are many other high chairs out there. Remember not to choose just because of style but, to really look at the chair and see how easy it is to maintain and if the chair is truly practical. More money definitely in this case does not mean a better high chair.
My last hight chair cost less than $50 and was a Graco, while the fabrice became outdated, it never got worn nor did I have any issues keeping it clean and it did not keep odors after cleaning. That high chair lasted through 2 boys and 5 years and it is still used at my in-laws home. This chair has been hosed down and left outside and I still can not manage to keep the under cushion odor out.
I would not recomend the purchase of this high chair. It is costly and I believe a sanitary hazard. If you still choose to get it, don't get the white leatherette. I estimated the purchase price as I received it as a gift.
