| jetbluefan1's Full Review: Orlando International Airport |
Welcome to Orlando International Airport! Actually, the real name of Orlando International Airport, is Orlando McCoy International Airport. However, not all people call this airport McCoy. For example, everyone called John F. Kennedy International Airport JFK, not John F. Kennedy. Almost everyone calls Los Angeles International Airport, LAX. So you know, Orlando International Airport is MCO. MCO is the three letter code for this airport. LAX is the three letter could for Los Angeles International Airport. So now you know why almost everyone calls Los Angeles International Airport, LAX!
Location - Orlando McCoy International Airport is located in Orlando Florida. The airport is about 20-25 miles away from Kissimmee. Kissimmee is the home to Disney World, and is south of the airport. When getting onto the expressway, you will see different billboards advertising rides at Seaworld, Disney World, and Universal Studios. Some of these billboards are 3D!
Airlines - Orlando McCoy International Airport has a large variety of airlines, not to mention low-fare airlines! The low-fare airlines include JetBlue, AirTran, Spirit, Southwest, Southeast, and Sunworld. JetBlue, and Southwest, serve into a selection of cities throughout the western, and eastern USA. The other airlines have a large influence on the east.
Some other domestic airlines serving into McCoy include Delta, United, Usairways, Continental, American, America West, and Northwest. All these airlines have a large influence throughout almost all the states in the USA. Almost all of these airlines serve into Europe, and some of them serve into Japan, Thailand, China, and Australia.
McCoy is big for international flights. Air Canada, and other Canadian charter airlines service from McCoy to various destinations in Canada. From Halifax, to Vancouver. Other airlines that serve international flights include Air Jamaica, Varig Brazil, Aeropostale Venezuela, British Airways, Martinair Holland, and Virgin Atlantic. All these airlines fly to Orlando about once a week. Virgin Atlantic serves into two European cities including Manchester, and London England.
Car Rental Agencies - The car rental agencies at McCoy are almost endless. Such agencies include Hertz, Avis, National, Budget, Alamo, Rent-a-Car, and other agencies made for the Orlando area, since the Orlando area is a popular place to rent a car.
After retrieving your baggage, from the baggage claim, you will go down several elevators, make about a dozen turns, and then you will find yourself on the lower level of the airport. There, you will see many counters, filled with passengers, and car rental agents. If your husband, wife, son, daughter, uncle.........is waiting in line, you can sit back in a small comfortable chair, located right behind the snake lines. So when you reserve a car, you will receive a ticket. The next step is catching a bus to the parking garage, to find your rental car. Don’t rush to get there, because the buses come constantly. You will then take an elevator to the level of which your car rental agency stores their cars. Then, you will receive a key. Also, a little piece of paper, saying what parking lot number, your car is in, and the brand.
Baggage Claim - Baggage Claim is very organized. Each airline has their own carousel. However, airlines that are larger at McCoy, such as Usairways, and Delta, have about three to four carousels. This makes it easier to retrieve your baggage, as do not have to crowd around one carousel. The carousels are somewhat small, so not many baggage can fit on it at one time.
Terminal - The terminals are very clean, and is also very crowded. After ticketing, you will enter a large corridor with many shops, and bars. Not to mention enormous video screens telling what time your flight leaves, along with large a skylight window. After passing all this stuff, and customs, you will find yourself waiting for an automatic train. The train takes you to the terminal, of which your airline operates out of. So after waiting for maybe two minutes, it will arrive. When stepping in, you will see seats, and poles to hang onto. When finally getting to the boarding terminal, you will see shops, and chairs to wait for your flight. Not to mention signs, pointing which way the concourses are in.
There are four terminals. Each terminal has a train running to it. When entering each, and almost every terminal at the departure hall, you will see a variety of things to do. For example, you can eat, or shop. The stores are located around the entrances of the two or three councourses (depending on which terminal). Sometimes, McCoy will hire a Japanese person, to write your name in Japanese, on a piece of paper to take home. It is actually quite nice, and professional. They don't use ink. They actually use paintbrushes. This is very nice to have, if your flight is delayed, and you have already cashed out at Disney, Universal.........etc, since it is free! Hooray!
Overall - McCoy International Airport has some issues to work out. First the positives. The terminal is very clean, and is air conditioned. There is also a large selection of airlines, and car rental agencies. Now for the bad. The airport is always overcrowded. It is always hard to finally get to your rental car, because it is always very confusing, and is a complicated obstacle. It also takes a little while to finally get to your boarding gate. They could have just simply put the gates, in the same building as the ticketing lounge, and the customs. However, service is always friendly. So I would recommend Orlando McCoy International Airport!
