Pros: Reliable, best of the big 3.
Cons: Half decent, but nothing too interesting.
The Bottom Line: Best of the domestics, and a good thirt quencher. There are 1000's of better beers in the world.

I was just browsing through an old copy of Food & Wine, and I came across an article covering wine fast food pairings
Cheeseburger: Something off-dry and fruity, RH Philips Zinfandel or a Riesling.
Well, today was 39 cent cheeseburger day at McDonald’s so I picked myself up 3. Into my beer collection, I picked up 12 Coors from the grocery store just before Christmas, I gave 6 to my dog sitter and left 6 in the garden for the gardeners. I came back from my little break to find that all 6 were still in the cooler box untouched. And there they sat until devoid of soda I was looking for something to eat with the burger. What better for a 39 cent cheeseburger than a beer that costs about the same?
Coors Original pours to the usual straw like color you expect from the domestic group. It’s pretty lively at first with a nice carbonation and a distinct light white foam. The body is very light and transparent. A couple of whiffs don’t reveal anything too interesting, it’s pretty simple. The flavor is a little sugary if you hold it at the front of the tongue, smoothing out in the middle with a little dryness at the end. There’s very little bitterness to speak of, the sweetness being the most noticeable remaining flavor. If you swirl it around your mouth you do get something of a light berry like flavor.
Back to the article “something off dry and fruity”; well that nearly covers Coors doesn’t it? In honesty the beer didn’t stand up well with food, and it wasn’t until I’d finished eating that I actually got any flavor from the beer. It might work well with a light dish. Then again there’s really not that much flavor to the beer so it would also work well with a plate of hot wings.
Definitely better than the other members of the big 3, and a half decent beer. If only given the choice of Bud, Coors or Miller, this is where I’d go. However since trying all these new beers of late, life’s too short to waste on mediocre beer, I’ll be adventurous and try all the 1000’s I have yet to. If you enjoy this beer I would recommend that you go out and buy some of the widely available quality pilsners such as Urquell or Warsteiner.
Next time the gardener knocks on the door or fixes my sprinklers for free I’ll probably give him 3 more of these. I should say that he didn’t look too overwhelmed by the Rio Claro’s I gave him last time, but then I’m not really going to be handing over my 750 ml Chimay Grande Reserve am I.
