Pros: lots of room for gear, responsive to paddle, and best of all...fun!
Cons: heavy to portage, love/hate relationship with molded seats
The Bottom Line: Big boat means big capacity and big fun with the Tripper.

| tobydude's Full Review: Old Town Tripper |
The Tripper is a BIG boat. It is long, wide, and deep. As a big paddler, I appreciate the fact that two big guys can pile in enough gear for a 6 day camping trip and still have plenty of space for the paddlers. And all of this without even coming close to the maximum rated weight capacity.
My Tripper has been down many Class I and II rivers, and a few Class III ones too. The Royalex body takes a real beating, but does eventually wear through if you hit enough rocks and logs. I am on my second epoxy skid plate now.
Some might say that I should invest in a new, lighter weight boat....but as long as I can patch the old Tripper, I will keep it. And down the road, when I need a new canoe...it would have to be a really good canoe for me to consider it over my Tripper.
My big gripe is with the seats. Although they are wonderfully comfortable in general, they are a real pain in the rear (literally) if you paddle the boat solo and try to turn it around, so you are sitting in reverse in the "bow" seat. But if I wanted a solo boat, I would have bought one.
