| amyk49's Full Review: Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion with Uv Protectio... |
I've been quite a fan of Olay beauty products, so when they recently introduced their new Regenerist line, I was anxious to give them a try.
I try to always use a daytime moisturizer with UV protection, so I decided to try Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion.
~ Product Description
We are told on the packaging that "Olay Regenerist regenerates skin's appearance without such drastic measures as chemical peels, cosmetic surgery or laser. " Olay is using amino-peptides in this formula to help regenerate skin by renewing its outer layer, thus revealing newer skin.
Along with this exclusive amino-peptide complex, Olay adds UVA/UVB sunscreen (SPF 15), vitamin C, and Olay moisture, to create a light and non-greasy formula that is intended to moisturize and shield damaging UV rays.
The directions say to apply evenly to cleansed face every day as needed. I've been using it only in the mornings under my foundation.
~ Packaging
Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion comes uniquely packaged in an elliptical-shaped plastic case. It was a little difficult to figure out how to extract the bottle from the case, until I noticed the directions about how to open. I followed the directions to grasp the top, twist clockwise and pull, and the top came off fine.
The bottle itself is 2.5 fl. oz., white, with a pump top. The bottle is nearly opaque, but if you hold it up to the light you can see how much is left in the bottle.
The bottle has an attractive, slim shape that fits nicely in your hand. The pump top is wonderful, but there is no covering over the pump, so once it is opened you can't travel with this bottle without danger of the pump being depressed accidentally and getting lotion all over the place. I kept looking in the package to see if I had missed something, but there is no covering for the pump top. That's one less star on my rating for sure.
~ My Experience
For well over a year I've been using Olay Total Effects Vitamin Enriched Moisturizer, which also has SPF 15, and been quite pleased. I was curious, though, how Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion might be different.
The first thing I noticed was that Olay Rengenerist has a thinner consistency. It has a white color, and a light, fresh fragrance. The fragrance is pleasant and not at all overpowering. Whereas Olay Total Effects moisturizer is thick and creamy, Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion is much thinner and lighter in texture.
It smooths extremely easily over the skin. I found on my first application that one pump would do almost half my face. It absorbs fairly quickly into the skin, but there is plenty of time to smooth it on. It feels almost slippery as you apply.
Right after it absorbed into my skin, my skin felt almost sticky or tacky. It wasn't greasy, but slightly sticky. That went away, but I was then left with a tingling, burning, uncomfortable sensation. It felt harsh. I wasn't screaming or anything, but the skin on my face didn't feel good, and certainly not soothed. My skin didn't turn red, and I didn't break out though. After, oh about 5 minutes or so the burning sensation was pretty much gone, and I applied my foundation and makeup as usual. But I didn't particularly care for the way my skin felt to the touch. It didn't feel velvety smooth and soft. My first impression was, eewww, I much prefer the Olay Total Effects moisturizer I'd been using.
I should mention that I do not have sensitive skin or allergies. I've used Retinol products that occasionally gave me a little tingle, but I've never had such an uncomfortable, burning sensation from any other skin product I've used. Just so you know, my skin is dryish and just starting to age (sob).
Not to just throw away about $20 that I spent for the product, I hung in there and used Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion every day for about two weeks. The burning sensation did lessen somewhat, but hasn't gone away completely. It just feels harsh to me. And the moisturizing effects are not very good either. I don't like the way my skin feels or the way my foundation goes on. I doubt I'll be finishing the bottle.

~ Final Thoughts
I don't like Olay Regenerist Enhancing Lotion. It's expensive - about $20 - and it feels harsh to my skin, although I haven't had any obvious redness or signs of irritation. Plus my skin feels sticky after using this. I've used several skin products from Estee Lauder and Lancome that are infinitely better, even though they are more expensive. And Olay Total Effects Moisturizer, which is a little less expensive, is way better.
I am not going to recommend Olay Regenerist Lotion, but perhaps your experience would be different.
